2018-09-15 Meningie Ride To Eat

The weather forecast for this wasn't good but it didn't stop us having a good turnout.  I left in the dark like I always do and chose to go a roundabout way there.  My first stop was last month's Not The National Rally venue Birdwood.  I had rain up until this point and the sun came out just long enough for me to take a couple of photos here.



Once I was back on the bike it started bucketing down again with small hail.  That was relentless until I got to Tungkillo.  From Mannum I went to the Purning Ferry.  After crossing that the plan was to go to Bowhill and then Wynarka where time would dictate as to whether I would go to Karoonda or Naturi.  However, before arriving at that intersection I came to Lowen Road and was quite surprised to find it sign posted to Karoonda and sealed.  That was a game changer because I thought it was unsealed (as confirmed my the google street view image below).





Despite the warning about bikes being fined I took that route to Karoonda.   
I first went to Karoonda in 2014 and at the time thought I would never be back, but I have every calendar year since then.

There weren't many photos opportunities after this due to the weather until the RTE itself.  I arrived in Meningie at about 1015 after traversing Sherlock, Yumali, Coonalpyn and Meningie East.











I stopped to look at an overturned ute at Poltalloch.  Apparently it happened earlier in the day.  StinkyPete and Alans1100 past me whilst I was there so I got a couple of photos of them in action.





The ride home from there was a nightmare as StinkyPete alluded to in the RTE thread.  I think the worst stretch was between Murray Bridge and Bremer Valley.

Spotwalla was on the ball again.  I dabble with putting in an extra point in Bowhill (chequered flag) but forgot to add a meal one at Meningie.

Those no bike signs tend to be for the off road type bikes more than anything. Road bikes are generally ok

Yeah.  It looks like a blanket ban on bikes, even though the pic is of a Chook Chaser.  Would they fine a dual purpose bike like a Tenere?  Seems very odd.  We have Ag bikes roaring through the city traffic. Why not on a country road?  A South Oz thing, apparently.

I have done that.  Every council I have written to with an inquiry have got back to me with the exception of Kimba.

Some of my favorite time lapse photos from the bike has been after we've had some rain.  Wet roads must reflect light in a different way.

We have issues with motorbikes riding through the road reserves in my area, so Councils do try to restrict access to bikes and four wheel drives who like to go bush bashing as it does impact on native vegetation and can be a safety issue. That said, pretty hard to enforce as often happens on weekends when we aren't at work and relies on people reporting events and having enough details to proceed with.

Had one guy riding in the verge of Princes Highway one morning on the way to work, no way of getting anywhere near him to identify, that's if the bike is even registered.
