Johnny Whiteheads Oberon RTE report
« on: September 16, 2018, 05:26:03 PM »
Johnny is having technical problems logging in so here is his Oberon RTE ride report :

RTE Oberon Ride Report.
A2Z Allen arrived at Picton out front right on time, 8.30, a talk about 'Filtering' No! and we tried to connect Bluetooth unsuccessfully, along with a quick discussion of the roads ahead that is my ALT route inSTead of Northern Road and all the delay with 'Sydney's' New airport build. We had plenty of time for a relaxed but fun ride and new views and roads across to Penrith , Richmond and beyond for Al.
At Nth Richmond we headed up the mountains on Bell's Line of Road, traffic was light after Bilpin and STrangler enjoyed the sweeping dips and climbs across leading us to Bell , turning left towards our firST STop down the bottom of Mt Victoria. We STopped at the lolly shop for coffee and catch up, then headed weST and onto Jenolan Caves Rd, Duckmaloi Rd and into Oberon at 12.30. The windguSTs made the ride a little more exciting.
Allen and I were Met at the TouriST hotel by Growly and Chloe and Wilko. As we disembarked a Sliver and Red ST1300's pulled up opposite so I went over and said G'Day and intro'd OzSTOC as they had known of us. Back across then we went inside and found the bar n BiSTro where we where greeted by the publican and given the simple menu. He spoke about his newly "refurb'd" rooms and offered them for us to peruse after lunch. $50 single 75 double.. off the menu both Allen and I had chicken balls or croquettes', Wilko had popcorn chook and Growly and Chloe shared the Beef pot Pie n chips the meal of the day. After chatting we all checked out the digs upSTairs. Oh there is a lock up shed out back for bikes we were told.

Outside we said our farewells, Allen and I re-fuelled in Oberon to support buy it local. I enjoy the way we came so we went home the same route, STopping at Penrith Panthers Macca's for a COLD drink and chicken nuggets n chips to top up lunch. There we said our farewells then once more took Allen back across thru Mulgoa Warragamba the Oaks and dropped down into Picton where Allen turn towards home via Picton Rd to the coaST, and I arrived home aprx 5pm.

I enjoyed today's RTE, showing A2Z Al an alternative route across Sydney's weST much more enjoyable than The Northern Rd whilST airport conSTruction is ongoing. STrangLer seemed effortless beneath me and handled the wind guSTs. I took a few pics below, sorry we didn't take a flag pic, my bad.

Great to know different routes and show them to other riders.  I love finding new roads and making the connections in my "head atlas".
Good to see you guys getting a nice balanced diet!   I guess roosters have balls, but the croquettes look more appetising.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott
