Just off the 'phone with the insurance assessor and then the insurance company, as it has been determined that the Mighty ST1300 is a total loss (repair estimate has been put at around $7000). FMD, I think this is a gross over-estimate as the damage to the ST is basically cosmetic, sure a fair bit of gravel rash to RHS plastics, but still just cosmetic. Might be time for a Royal Commission into insurance and repair companies. Time for a blood pressure pill.
Anyway, there are a number of options to be considered to achieve a settlement, I just need to work which is best for me, and the ST, eg:
- A lump (or is that limp?) sum for the market value (to be agreed) of the bike, plus $2100 for non-OEM accessories, Russell saddle, tow hitch, heated grips and GPS dash mount (which come in at over $2100).
- Or, accepting the market value sum, buying the wreck (salvage sum to be agreed), less the salvage sum and the $2100, and keeping fingers crossed re. actual cost of repairs.
I suppose it will depend on what the agreed sums are, and how tight I keep my fingers crossed. Agreed sums will be determined by next Tuesday, and then until end of next week to decide.

WendyL has just been given a damage assessment from her running over a feral goat en-route between Cobar and Echuca...front forks, triple clamp, right front brake rotor, plus the left and right lower cowls and front cowl that were smashed and cut away to keep going.....probably looking at about $5-$7k if at all available

I always insure my vehicles for "Agreed Value" as I've always found so called "market value" is always way less than you'd expect...although in saying that I reckon the prices of ST's have risen in recent times so who knows! :popcorn

Michael, if it is classed as a repairable write off just check exactly what has to be done to get it back on the road before you think about buying it and putting it back on the road. It will probably be different in other states but in WA it was going to be a pain.

Except for the brake rotor think I have most of that stuff in the backyard.

:bl11. :think1 A couple of years ago ,I repaired a bmw k1300 for a customer.he originally took it to a large company in Adelaide for a quote.it came back at $16000.00 as you can guess it was written off.the customer jumped up and down and told the insurance company that he wanted to keep the bike and knew of someone who could repair it a lot cheaper (that’s me ). My quote was $6500.00..I got the job .during repairs I managed to repair a couple of parts that were mildly scuffed and saved the insurance company a further $1500.00 .everyone was happy! There are hundreds of bikes that are written off that don’t need to be.is it a racquet?? …………you betya

An update on this matter and also thanks for all of the constructive comments and advice.
Me - the pain of five cracked ribs is still considerable and need (for me anyway) some heavy duty medication to get me through the night, and some light meds through the day to take to edge off the pain. I've tried to get through the day without any meds, Helen asked me to go back on the light meds - I wonder why? The meds are making me drowsy, and I have trouble concentrating on anything complex. The doc gave me a couple weeks off work (due back next Monday) but tomorrow I'll see him again and expect a week or two extension.
The ST - I went to Bairnsdale today (with my ride buddy Doug) to check out the bike, get the trailer, a few accessories and extras not covered under the insurance, and personal items (contents of the top box and panniers).
The ST is in surprisingly good condition. Worst damaged is to the RH engine guard cover, and then some gravel rash to the RH mirror cover & busted mirror, RH upper panel, RH pannier and top box. The RH handle bar end has some scratches, but no more than prior to the crash (a result of the bike falling on its RHS in the garage). No breaks, cracks or splits to the plastics, I reckon that a bit of professional attention, elbow grease and a respray they'll come up like new.
No news from the insurer as yet. I was expecting an email today in response to my firm email yesterday asking for a resolution on this matter.

Yes, I have thought of that option but then I'm left with the cost of transporting the ST from the crash site to the Bairnsdale, and storage fee. This is at approx. $2500 at the moment (increasing at $20 per day). It seems that some simple things are not simple.
This raises other matters, the transport fee $2300. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! That works out at approx. $8.20 per km or approx. $460 per hour for the truck and driver. Pretty damn good earn for the tow company.
I suppose these fees could be challenged as I did not authorise transport and storage of the ST, but the alternative would be worse.

The Games are entering the final stage, repairs completed, only three laps to go:
* VIV inspection to be scheduled - due to only three VicRoads' authorised inspector (Frankston, Fawkner & Geelong), long lead times with bookings and personal commitments this likely to be mid-Feb '24.
* RWC inspection and certificate.
* Visit to VicRoads' Licensing and Registration Office - Bundoora is my preference.

Update on the old, original ST1300.
- RWC - passed
- VIV - passed
- Rego booked for Thursday 4 April - nothing available next week, I'm too bust easly the week, the Thursday will do.
I think my forecast ....
.... Damage to the ST is superficial, fairing, plastics, etc, although probably expensive, and back on the road very soon.....
..... may not have been very accurate, it's only 379 days since this.

Although, I was accurate with the extent of damage and cost of repairs, this has come in at around $1000 (assessor's estimate was $7000), but more than double that has been swallowed up in fees and charges that would not have occurred if the ST1330 was not declared a repairable write-off.
Why the difference between the repaired and assessed costs? I have a firm belief that there is collusion and corruption in the insurance, insurance assessor and auto / motorcycle repair industries. Of course, this is something which we all knew of anyway.
