I am sorry to say this, but the Wing will go as fast as you want on public roads, even compared to the ST11/13. When I test rode one at the Snowyride I was going no slower than I would have on my bike.

I have only done 178K on my ST11.

Pricing Cruise Control (happy for suggestions on what to use)

Replacing the Front Forks springs (not sure if i do myself or get the shop to do it)

Cruise Control.........only if I had the available cash at $920........http://www.mccruise.com/collections/honda/products/12 .....your local Honda Dealer is on the fitting list.

Front Forks........I don't have issues with mine but you have a progressive rear shock so you may as well upgrade the front as well.

Get the dealer to change the springs while they have the caps out changing the oil. It is not an easy job to do on your own. I found the Ikon brand ok.

Wise decision Streak!

I don't think the ST1300 is a huge evolutionary step over the ST1100.  They are both nice bikes but I think the ST1100 still holds its own as a comfortable and reliable big bore tourer.  There's heaps of high mileage 1100's around and they'll probably still be going strong even when the sun burns out!  :thumb

Hi Graham,
I think this thread if heavily loaded to the pro 1100 lobby and probably giving you a bit of a one eyed response to your original post. I thought I should try to add a bit of balance to the debate. It is understandable that the 1100 riders get defensive at the thought of one of their number tranferring out to "big brother" and will do their darndest to convince you to stay. In their arguements however, is a lot of implied critisism to the magnificent 1300 that just can't be ignored. Firstly, I have never ridden a 1100 so won't go there in direct comparisons. I only know that lots of people love them so they must be a good bike! (albeit getting a bit long in the tooth!!). As far the 1300 is concerned, Ros and I couldn't be happier with our 08, particularly as a 2up bike. We have done heaps of long tours on it (up to 6000k over 3 weeks) and would not change it for quids (showing my age now!). We are planning to ride it 15000k+ next year around Oz over 3 months. It is still fitted with the original seat and it is fine. I don't know what is the matter with these wooses who complain about the 1300 seat. Are they bikers or not!. If they want a softer seat, sit in a car! otherwise enjoy the ride and suck up the ocassional numb bum. If I have one thing I can say about the 1300 over the 1100 it is that I believe the 1300 is a better all round 2up tourer. The luggage capacity is better and the added power certainly does come in handy doing quick O/T manouvers when 2 up and fully loaded. The electric windscreen and heated grips (a must!) are also a great boon on long tours. I know this will attract a howl of protests from our little brothers, but that's my opinion for what it is worth. For my money, forget the major refit of your 1100 and keep looking for the good low mileage 1300 (preferable 08+). They are out there and you won't be sorry.
Cheers

you know what i am really impressed with, is that both sides of the group have been commenting here, and it is all based on solid discussion, experience and facts, i have learnt quite a bit about both bikes in the last week.

the person who actually convinced me to keep the ST1100 was my sister who simply said, "why change, you love that bike"

It looks like i will spend around $2,000 to do what I want to do, I am looking forward to showing you all the results, i am trying to find a new screen....

Just an update, you will all will be surprised, my local honda shop Toowoomba honda gave me some fantastic pricing,

I bought 2 sets of tip over covers for my ST1100 and they cost me $53 a set after our group discount.

I also picked up my bagster Minea tank bag for $198 after our group discount (I forgot I ordered one from them, the one I ordered from overseas has cost me $220 with postage, so I will have a spare tank bag to sell)

I am picking my Shark Evoline 3 up on Saturday for $549 after our group discount, ( can get cheaper overseas, but warranty is a lot simpler here)

They have really stepped out to help me, and are really supportive of the group, if you call them talk to David in spares, he is a very nice chap, and Andrewcwho runs the workshop is old school and does not talk crap.

The evoline 3 is a nice helmet, and a good upgrade on the evoline 1 I have. The Shoei neotech is very very nice and fits me better than the the previous model which has been discounted, but near $900 . I should stop going around trying on new gear, as everything I like always cost more not less.

Streak, a word of caution with the Evoline. make sure that the two little screws in the sides of the helmet are secured with either a very small drop of nail polish, or some other screw grip (like Loctite), because so far I've had both fall out on me. One after about 4 months...then waited nearly 5 weeks for a replacement which I fitted with nail polish, then the other fell out about 6 weeks ago...still waiting for the replacement to turn up!!!
Cheers,
Paul
