ST1100 rear wheel removal in 5 minutes

I spotted this on how to remove an ST1100 wheel. Take note of the tyre condition.

It took me about 15 minutes the last time I did it mainly because I couldn't remove the caliper retaining bolt with my fingers.

I can be done in that time if you are in a hurry, but I usually check a few things while taking them apart.  Putting some grease on the brake retaining bolt helps get it out. The speed sensor for the cruise controls adds a little bit of time.  There are more tricks when putting the wheel back on that taking it off.

All very well but he didn't take into account for the time to remove the plastic extension, or remove the tow hitch, or remove the LHS aftermarket Staintune muffler. (Took mine out yesterday to get a new tyre fitted Monday). I also don't have a garage kitty because I'm allergic to felines.. I did however have a lot of garage mozzies to keep me company... mumble grumble stinging bastards....

At least it is warm enough for mossies. Even the flies have died of down here, and less than zero most of the week.

I have to do my tyre sometime during the next week, not sure if I put grease on the brake retaining bolt or not but will make sure I do this time.

When I do mine the Heathers cat stays away but her dogs like to offer their advice and I have a tow bar to remove as well. This time I'm doing oil/filter as well and the bike should then be ok for the Border Run.

When I had back wheel out, dropped the bottom bolt from shock and let wheel/swingarm assembly drop so axel cleared the staintunes. Lot easier than taking muffler off. Used a two foot (600mm for you metric people) length of fence paling to lift wheel/swingarm assy up to fit shock bolt.  :)

He didn't have a rear guard on either  . Makes it a lot easier to pull that off first.

I have never found it a easy as that getting the wheel up and engaged with the splines.  I use a piece of wood or a spade under the wheel to lift it up, then slip in the axle - wheel slides across and engages in the splines. Take the axle out then proceed putting it all back together.
