Not a farkle - but a definite great add-on for your pannier for you long distance ST pilots.

Thanks goes to Terry for putting me on to this little gem.

It is a nice, clear road atlas with all the truck stops, caravan parks, rest areas and parking bays around Australia marked. Plus much more.

If you're out on the road, wondering when the next stop is or what facilities a place has - then this is a great book.

Yeh, sorry forgot about that. I've had one of these for about 10 years. They're great and can save you a LOT of money.

I was put onto it by someone I knew whose dad bought one, travelled around Australia in a caravan, and the only time he spent money on Site Fees was when he had no clean clothes left, so he'd pull into one for the night, use their laundry, then hit the road the next day.

He then learnt how to solve the laundry problem. He bought a Nappy Bucket, strapped it into the caravan, half filled it with water, added some powder, put in the clothes from the day before and off he'd go. The action of the Caravan washed the clothes.

When he stopped for lunch, he'd wring them out, change the water for fresh water, put the clothes back in and then continue on his journey. This rinsed them.

Once he'd stopped for the night, he'd just hang them out to dry. When he woke up he'd put the dirty clothes from the previous day into that water, add some powder and start all over again.

Brilliant idea.

Nappy bucket on the back of an ST ??? not a good look. Guess the top box would work if you travel with it empty.

There's also this one written by Paul Smedley who used to ride white BMW's for a living. Not sure if he's still in the SA police force but I used to live next to him in a carvan park. He used to take 3 months off work a year and travel. Ended up writing a couple of books about rest stops etc.

Now when the place pops up like a campground on the side of the road, move that little yellow man top left onto the part that you want to have a look at. Klick on him, and like bloody magic up a pic of the place pops and you can have a look around by moving that football shaped, silvery white thing around, and have a look for stuff like shelters and toilets and stuff

These books are great. On our first trip to the east we had photocopied pages to use in certain areas. On the second and third trips, we had bought our own. Saved us a heap of money. We take it everywhere with us.

They also have a POI file available for purchase which you can download from their website.  Makes it very easy to add to your trip files especially if you use "tyre"  (http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php ) as your planning software or cut and paste coordinates into googlemaps.
