Why would the new limit be that at a T-junction?

In the photo above any sign is pointless, but I've see a few going out of a town saying 'end 50' and can't see why it can't just say 60, 70 or whatever. I saw few in Tassie that do that and I know there's one at Second Valley that does that.

How often have you slowed to 40kph for roadworks only to find at the end of it the workers have forgotten to erect an end roadwork speed limit sign?
Technically you're then required to plod along at 40kph until you eventually come across a higher speed limit sign or a T intersection sign...

Many times, except it's 25km/h in South Australia.

It's the same speed for passing stopped emergency vehicles too isn't it?
