Front Fork Removal

(1/2) > >>

twisted 1:
I have a question regarding front fork removal. Due to a leaking fork seal I need to remove the forks, so the question is can I remove the forks with the bike on the Centre stand or do I need more ground clearance to slide the forks out.

Brock:
I think you may need to get a few more inches. If you park up on a few planks, you should have enough room.

Abe:
Haynes manual Chapter 5.8.

It doesn't mention anything specific. Just centre stand.

If you do come into trouble once the front wheel is off, you could undo the rear shock lower bolt and use a jack under the sump, to gain more clearence??

I have never done this on my 1300, only on my 1100.

PC:
Center stand is fine heaps of clearance to remove forks  I put a jack under the sump just to make sure the bike didn't tip forward
Hint-- loosen top cap before undoing triple clamps

As above, remove the front guard and wheel after unbolting the brake calipers, then simply until the top and bottom pinch bolts. Don't forget to torque them up to factory specs when re-assembling. I've done this a few times with no hassles. I just put a bottle jack under the front of the sump and jack it up a bit so that the rear tyre is on the ground.
