Who is your Mob Ph Carrier Co.?
« on: April 11, 2013, 11:22:13 AM »
Abe and I were just wondering who gets our Mobile biz (for no particular reason).

But given the vast amounts of country riding one can do in Oz on a ST - does this influence your choice?

With the new 4G network going in - are you changing companies soon?

Have you gotten rid of your landline handset now and just use the mobile? (I am trying).

Do you use Skype (or other) a lot?

Cheers, Diesel

I'm with Vodafone - found the coverage to be woeful on the Middleton trip.
I guess Telstra has the best coverage - unfortunately I have always found them to be a pack of  :cuss :cuss holes regarding customer service & pricing.Don't use Skype & no landline .

We recently changed over to TPG for all our communication needs, and have halved our yearly communication bills.   :thumbsup  TPG uses the Optus network, not as good as Telstra, but heaps better than VodaNoPhone

Previously we had our home phone with Telstra, Internet with Adam, and two Telstra PrePaid mobiles which we really only used on hoilday or for emergencies.

Telstra NextG for my mobile, and Jean with Virgin (Optus).....Virgin has the best value for money deal on calls, data, plan......., but telstra has far better rural coverage for where we find ourselves, and I can only put a Telstra sim in my Satellite phone for when we go scrub.

Cheers

Gotta agree with Mystic, with some of the places I travel to for work Telstra is the only choice. I haven't had too many problems with Telstra over the years and I know how much I'm up for because I have a capped plan which I will never use totally in a fit. I just don't use the mobile that much.

Mystic and Bikebear are right, if you're with any other carrier and you step outside of the city limits... Pow.. No service.

Telstra here, step 10 feet west of toowoomba and no service from the rest, I had service for 98% of my national rally trip, cost wise, well I have a theory you pay for what you get...

Does anybody know much about Southern Phone?
I think you can choose either Optus or Telstra and they are cheaper then dealing with Telstra directly.

Started with an Optus landline because someone needed to give Telstra a kick in the behind then went to Optus mobile.
Now have naked dsl for landline which gives me all Australain landline calls, except for 13 numbers, free.
Keep a low low Optus mobile plan still just to keep Telstra honest even though coverage is not as good. Even in my home in Perth lucky to get 2 bars in some rooms. First time I used mobile through blue tooth on the bike I got 500 meters down the road and had trouble remembering exactly how I got there, now all phone calls can wait until I have stopped (same applies for my car).

Telstra mainly for NextG coverage in rural areas.  I also bundle in a Tbox, home phone (free local calls and to my mobile, up to 3 mins free to wife's mobile)  I don't have a data plan for the mobile.

Yeah I hear ya Glen - My street is 400m long and with Optus - perfect reception up the other end - but around the house - I'm one of those who walk around exclaiming "how about now?... is that better.... just wait, I'm going outside!"....etc etc

There are those giant high tension powerlines that cross the street half way, and I believe they affect reception, as the infrastructure for transmission is on the other side of the lines.

Paying the extra for Telstra seems to have fixed this problem.

Have actually saved $80 per month by combining services and lowering data and call allowance.

Up until we moved from Karratha back to SA we used Vodafone for both our phone and USB internet connection as we had no landline where we were living.

Moving to Peterborough left us with Optus or Telstra and for us Optus is as good as Telstra for where we live.

I'm pre-paid with Optus.........6 month cap plan for $30 and I still have credit to roll over on re charge.........

Heather has Do-Do (uses Optus network) on $50 a month cap plan on contract and only switched over because of her need for a new phone. The deal came with a wifi 10.1 Tab as an extra.

We ditched Telstra 10 years for the land line in favour of B Digital ( taken over by Soul taken over by TPG) as they included $20 of calls for the phone and a reduced rental fee with our first ADSL broadband package. Telstra did the usual try to get us back but they couldn't match the price.

For land line we use Aussie Broadband with an ADSL2 100GB plan for about $80 a month plus any calls we make. I will never see the sense in using a phone or a tab for a full time internet connection when a PC or a Laptop are so much easier to use.

I started this post on my tab..........it took 20 minutes for the first 3 lines...............I gave up and came back to the PC.

We've got the Telstra home package: $100/month landline, free calls plus cable internet, 200 gb (we use about 12 gb!). Plus two $40 mobile plans with three way free calls.  We're on 3G and rarely lose signal.  Missus Biggles uses all her allowance on SMSes then racks up more on calls.   :'(
I usually donate $200/ month towards the CEO's multi-million dollar pay packet (and his free phone and car).
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Same as Biggles and Sabie at home and use Telstra mobile for work. The wife has dabbled away from Telstra a couple of times but we always go back due to the better signal issues. I guess if you own the network, you should have the best signal.  As said earlier, you pay a bit more but the signal and service is better.

Telstra is the only carrier who can reach country areas.

Telstra is the only carrier who can reach country areas

Depends on what you call country areas.......and if you're on about land line or mobile.

Not even Telstra is everywhere and you can still have no service on major highways in most areas of the country. My sis in law recently went to NBN via satellite up at Marla, SA. The service was so good they went back to the old system.

My last trip across the Nullarbor earlier this year saw about 6 towers being erected so I doubt it won't be to long and that highway will be covered for at least emergency calls for non Telstra carriers.
-------------

I'm now on Dodo (Optus network) for my mobile @ $10 every two months. Not capped but 11c a minute or sms and no connection fee and I still don't make enough calls to run out of credit and still had $25 left at last top up.

When we first got back to Oz, went with Vodaphone, but got sick of the little coverage they provided. had one bar at the back of the house (mid city suburbia) and no coverage for where work took me.  Now with Telstra, yeah a little more $$, but it works.  No home phone for about 10 years, dont miss it either (herro, is de orner hoome?)

I put up with the reduced Optus carriage, I have had too many hassles with Testra over billing problems. It took over a year to resolve a problem with the billing for my Daughters phone. Even the resolution staff couldnt work out what was happening with the account. It was so messed up, they zeroed out the $250 that was apparently owed and that went wrong and they sent me a cheque for $250.00
