Led tail lights on the top box
« on: August 10, 2015, 07:58:23 PM »
I have seen some previous threads on this but I am looking at installing led brake lights on my top box to improve visibility in traffic.  The genuine Honda spoilers are great but so is the price.  What have people had the most success with?

Here is what I came up with Richo - Works great and made the cars take notice from day 1. Even had other riders ride staggered file behind me as it made the cars behind them brake - Credit to my little friend for some clever bar work  :clap

:thumbs. Excellent Work.  Thank you.   I know it can be done and will work like I imagined.  Anything that adds a bit of space between me and the cars following will be worth it.

I knew it made a difference from the first trial after fitting when I saw the nose of the cars behind me dip down as soon as I braked. That had never happened before. I also noted the brighter brake lights even catch the eye of drivers distracted by devices.

Hi guys,  another questions for the techno types out there.  I have found a water proof 24 led light bar for the top box brake light,  the question is do I need any "electricky" tranformers, diodes or what ever they are called to make sure it does not interfere with lights etc.     thanks

More than likely a NO.

It should just connect to the brake light wiring, just make sure you get the polarity right on the wires. If they are the wrong way, they wont work, but no damage. If you want it to work as  tail light as well, then there is some trickery needed as well.

what Brock said. i have a number of led lights hooked up and generally they just connect into the current wiring.

I've ordered some LED brake lights I'm planning to add to the cross bar for my CB antenna mount.

I am seriously considering wiring them up as Tail lights as well, using either a dropping resistor or a current regulator chip or circuit.

if I go down the current regulator path I'm thinking I am going to need a reverse power protection diode to isolate the the Brake light voltage from the output of the regulator.
Cheers,
Gary

The LED brake light  I installed on my old top case had a Red (+) and black (-) wire and all I did was run a wire from the red wire to the brake light wire near the rear light cluster and the earth wire to the frame. I do have another light bar to fit to the new top case but so far I haven't worried about it (might get around to doing it one day).

I bought a cheap top box online thru Ebay and then the lighting unit from the US which fitted just fine
in place of the old reflector. like this one here.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RJays-Super-Top-Box-39-Litre-Capacity-for-Motorcycles-Motorbikes-TBOX929-/191410488458?hash=item2c90f4448a
I also both the cable to go with it that goes thru the box and has threaded connection to allow for ease of removal.
I am lost and haves gone to find myself
Now If I get back before I return
Please ask me to wait.
