Open season folks...
Got a great place you remember or know of in Tassie that your fellow villains should check out when touring here?
Here's your chance to showcase it.
One Rule though: Start your post with NORTH WEST, CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, CRADLE COAST, EAST COAST etc so when flicking through, we can instantly see what area/region you are talking about to make our planning easier.
Cheers, Diesel

ALL REGIONS:
https://tasmania.com/maps/tasmania/ (https://tasmania.com/maps/tasmania/)
-
CENTRAL HIGHLANDS:
Ride the Cressy-Poatina-Bothwell-Hamilton road for a very memorable experience. Either direction is fine.

And no whinging about how Australia got left off the map either! :rofl :rofl
-
CENTRAL-NORTH EAST
Start at Longford-Cressy across to Campbell Town on to the Lake Leak Hwy down St Mary's Pass onto Scamander, Pyengana; Weldborough through to Scottsdale and then up The Sidling towards Launnie cutting around to go out E Tamar Hwy to the Batman Hwy across the Batman Bridge left down to Exeter and right onto the Frankford Rd back towards Port Sorrell...Full day loop
-
NORTH WEST
Stanley - Smithon - Woolnorth, to the end of the sealed road (then, unless they have extended the seal, double back) - Arthur River - Couta Rocks (again double back, unless they have sealed the loop) - Stanley.
There's a series of dips and crests between Arthur River and Couta Rocks, you need to concentrate if you don't want to get the ST airborne at around 100km/h.
Just beyond end of the seal:

CRADLE COAST
There are some very sweet back roads (not all sealed, so you might need to back track if you are to avoid any gravel) inland from Ulverstone.
https://goo.gl/maps/HoRqYQZPdzs (https://goo.gl/maps/HoRqYQZPdzs)
The lookout over Gunns Plains is one location that I'll remember for some time.

CENTRAL HIGHLANDS
Here's a nice little loop:
https://goo.gl/maps/BHQtuRPJX1F2
Only 204km, but add another 50km (and 1.5 hours), or so, as it's worthwhile riding the twisties up and down, or down and up, a couple of times at either end of the Great Western Tiers. We drove the western side of the Great Lake back in Jan this year, there was approx. 2km of good gravel between the Great Lakes Lookout (see pic of view below) and Doctors Point. With the rate the road is being upgraded with a seal, I would not be surprised if it was completed by November. Either way, I'll be adding it to my ride list. I'm sure Big Gaz will keep us informed.
(https://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Tassie%20Tour%20Jan%202019/87a7802988e45d2fb98ab77cf65f630f_original_zpsaokehaln.jpg) (https://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Tassie%20Tour%20Jan%202019/87a7802988e45d2fb98ab77cf65f630f_original_zpsaokehaln.jpg.html)
A road in this area to avoid is the Marlborough Highway. Despite being classified as a Highway, it does not live up to it. Only about 30km of gravel, but shyte gravel it is.

This is NOT on my ride list.

Before and / or after Nigel checks his roots at Gowrie Park, he gets an opportunity to take this view in on a half day diversion.

Only around 260 days (for me) to go.

I'm spending three nights in Swansea so shall keep that in mind.
Three nights? Something I wouldn't be doing, unless I my wife had family there, or if the bike broke down. Although there is (well last visit in 2014) a very nice water front bakery with great views.

MT ROLAND - NOWHERE ELSE - SHEFFIELD - GOWRIE PARK: (Our Lunch destination for Nat Rally)
How do you know when you're at Nowhere Else? In May 2015, I rode up & down, down & up the road half a dozen times, didn't see any signs.
-
Well - you are certainly at nowhere else when you are at Nowhere Else! :crackup

Four and half hours one way accoding to google maps. I think I shall be doing when I stay in Hobart (two and a half hours).

Your budget maybe!! When we were there last October a whole Lobby was $200, and a half was $120.

Google Maps suggests 4:33, I reckon with some spirited riding it would be easily under 4:00 even with a stop, but then you might miss some sights. But allow another 1:00 for sight seeing and a rest at Strathgorden, and then at least another 1:00 or 1:30 (depend where you next night is), 'cause there's not many options west of Westerway.
Four and half hours one way accoding to google maps. I think I shall be doing when I stay in Hobart (two and a half hours).
I find Google Map times very pessimistic, eg. Maydena to Gordon Dam = 1:00; my time = 0:45, but making Hobart a base is more sensible (IMHO).
-
I do a lot of stopping and taking photos if I see things of interest so often take longer than google maps suggest, but I've got four nights in Hobart so I shall be doing when I am there.
-
HOBART ACCOMMODATION
We have stayed at Edinburgh Gallery a few times. Only rated 3.5 stars, but it has the basics, clean sheets, plenty of hot water, a cooked breakfast, off-street parking (if you're quick). And walking distance to Salamanca Place bars and restaurants, and the Market if you there on a Saturday.
A little (perhaps a lot) quirky, earned the nickname Fawlty Towers. Good value for two or more, especially if there is room or bed sharing, not value for the solo stayer.
https://www.thebookingbutton.com.au/properties/edinburghgdirect?check_in_date=24-02-2019&check_out_date=25-02-2019&number_adults=2 (https://www.thebookingbutton.com.au/properties/edinburghgdirect?check_in_date=24-02-2019&check_out_date=25-02-2019&number_adults=2)
As BG has identified, Hobart is a good base for many a day ride.
-
:blk13 :dred11
I have fond memories of camping in the coffin at Wedge River campsite on the way to Strathgordon and the DAM. :grin
A MUST DO ride in my opinion. ;-*

-
When are you in Hobart Bodo , we might be able to catch up
November 5th to 9th staying in Glenorchy. Haven't locked in any plans as yet, but sketchy plans are
5th Ride from Devonport to Glenorchy
6th Check out Bruny Island
7th Ride to as far south as possible. I know the concrete runs out half way to Southport so will see how far on the dirt I can take the kwaka when I see it.
8th Do the dam run as mentioned above.
These are just rough plans. Those days are interchangeable.
Check out on the 9th and then make my way to Swansea.
-
6th Check out Bruny Island
Only toured from the ferry to the south island. Get some pics of the north island if you ride around there. Take your lunch and refreshments with you, otherwise take out a loan if you buy from the Adventure Bay store, although they are not as expensive the Coles Bay store (last stop before Wine Glass Bay).
7th Ride to as far south as possible. I know the concrete runs out half way to Southport so will how far on the dirt I can take the kwaka when I see it.
The seal (well last month) ends at 344 Lune River Road. Then approx. 19km of gravel. We missed out out the ride to Cockle Creek, it was late in the afternoon, we were pretty tired so turned around, just as well as we were setting-up camp on Bruny in the dark. https://goo.gl/maps/QAUHz1txuwr
This November my plan is to get to the end of the seal by around 9:00am, and leave plenty of time to get to southern most road.
I also add Geeveston to the map, a stop here is worth considering - if you want some information on the timber industry, and if you like a nice pie and / or a vanilla slice.
This alternative to the Huon Highway - https://goo.gl/maps/hygG4dhjM9K2 - is a little detour I'm planning for in November.

Take a look at the options here:-

Yes, I have met the manager and her husband. They use to manage a couple of other B&B places in Maydena, one of which was a house opposite (which was owned by a mate of mine, sadly he has since sold it), so I will need to look at other options, thanks for the link.

Definitely not doable in a day from Port Sorell. Stay at Tarraleah, Derwent Bridge or Mt Field National Park and do it either morning or afternoon when the lighting is 'special'
-
For me a direction is all i need to explore
With that i offer you all is a back yard tour .
Love to show you the area as a mystery ride or rides while you guys and gals are here .
Hopefully do a couple of half dayers and a bit if you are intetested.

The dirt is usually pretty chopped up, well, it has been the couple of times I've gone there although in saying that my partner & myself had no trouble driving in in a little Suzuki Alto... :thumbsup
This awaits you: Cockle Creek (https://www.dropbox.com/s/a7xpilqf6zv8wc3/Cockle%20Creek%2C%20Tasmania.jpg?dl=0/)

Cockle Creek is on my goal list for later this year. It was a lack of time, rather than roads condition that caused us to miss it in 2014.
At the other end of the island, there's nice C roads and views to catch, if you get the time - looking out over Gunns Plains.

All my accommodation has been booked for quite some time now, but I do need to start planning some day trips.
-
...... but I do need to start planning some day trips.
Our trip planning consists of:
Week 1
- Check weather forecast (on the Monday morning before the NatRally) for the next few days.
- If it's raining on the west coast, head east.
- If it's raining on the east coast, head west.
- If it's raining both coasts, head south.
- Before heading off, check booking.com for accomodation options that night.
- Repeat point 5.
- Repeat point 5.
Week 2
It's worked on previous Tassie Tours.

And we need to keep plans flexible, if Nigel turns left, we turn right.

The National Automobile Museum Of Tasmania (Launceston) is worth a look... :thumbs

There's quite a few motorcycles as well as cars...
"Reliquaire" at Latrobe is a must see, in my opinion.
The original shop burnt down a few years back but the owners have rebuilt.
I haven't visited the new shop but if it's anything like the old one it will be absolutely amazing.
It was chock a block full of dolls, figurines, toys and other collectables...

Another great place is the Antique Emporium in Devonport...
