Title: WA Nat Rally 2016 Here we come
Post by: NavGirl20 on February 16, 2016, 05:49:52 PM
Ok here we go. Apparently he rides I write  so I'm told.
We left Warwick on Saturday morning the first day of a 2 month road trip to National Rally in Perth.  All packed and ready to go.  ( was told to trim wardrobe to bear minimum)

We travelled down the New England to Guyra then across to Ebor Falls and have a lunch stop.

From there it was down through the beautiful countryside of Dorrigo where we didn't see
Diesel crossing the street after quenching his thirst  ;-* as it was about 34deg.
Arriving at Nambucca Heads to set up camp for the next two nights.

On Monday we packed up camp and made our way down the coast to Port Macquirie, Taree Gloucester and over Bucketts Way to Singleton.

Tuesday saw us on the road again bright n early to avoid the heat. I couldn't quite get use to the idea of sunrise on the left ( very different from early morning rides at home).  Through the fog and dodging the storm debris we rode the Putty Rd (was on our bucket list and I see why it's so popular) ++ ++ An early coffee at Grey Gums Cafe - not at all how I pictured it. We took a look about Lithgow today and are now settled in at Little Hartley for a few days.

Well it was a busy morning making brekky for a young OzSToc IBA rider on his way north west. I then rode out towards Grenfell this morning and met PC & NavGirl and escorted them into West Wyalong. The beer wine and chocolate has been flowing after the paper rice chicken and vegie rolls and pork slices for lunch.
PC is airing the camper trailer tent in the Man Cave after a heavy dew this morning in the mountains. It got to 37 today so the tent dried within minutes. Marian is relaxing under the aircon.

We had an o/ night in Bathurst on Sunday and while there did the obligatory thing and took the bike around the track ----several times.
Today we left Bathurst bright and early to beat the heat, had a lovely brekky stop at the Rose Garden Coffee shop at Cowra  then made  our way to West Wyalong where Sicman escorted us into town.
These photos show Peter on pole position and view from the Esses  at Bathurst.

Yes it was very warm today. Left early but was still 39 degrees at 11am when we arrived in Hay. 20 Kms from Hay Peter was pulled over and had to speak with the local constable. He had an RBT and license check. When we got back on the ride to continue it was 46 degrees. Have spent the afternoon by the pool. Photo shows Hay Plains. We were told there is nothing there and by the photo they were not kidding.  :H

Much cooler and thoroughly enjoyed our ride down the Sturt Highway from Euston for o/night in Renmark tonight. Due to the intense heat we've had to make some changes to our plans but that's been ok. Only a short hop into Adelaide on Friday until next  Thursday 3rd. Getting really excited now.  :dred11 :runyay
Photos are the of Murray Rv. The first one is from our camper looking along the river, and second one is River bed about 5ks from town.

Made it into Adelaide on Friday. Stinky Pete and Fish rode out and met us an Anguston. After a great coffee we rode on to Pomegratate Cafe at Birdwood (opposite the Birdwood Motor Museum) for a lunch stop and then into Adelaide where we are being spoilt with absolutely great hospitality.
Peter and I went exploring today and found a great little ride through the hills and down to Maslin Beach - apparently the nudists frequent one side and those batting for the other side frequent the other cliffs????
From there it was on to the picturesque area of Moana and a coffee at the Deep Blue Cafe. Following the coastline we made our way back to where the Onkaparinga Rv empties into the sea and then just because of the name it was on to Marion Shopping centre - the largest shopping complex in SA.

After amendment 87965.22 to our plans, Chris and I are driving with caravan. We are leaving Fri 4th in the mid afternoon and will arrive Thurs 10th. We now do not have a date we have to be back so will make a leisurely sojourn in southern WA on the way home. I will check tomorrow if I can hire a motorcycle for a couple of days for rally. :runyay :runyay

Yesterday we had a wonderful day tripping around the southern end of SA through the historic town of Strathalbyn, a quick coffee AND CAKE  :EatCake stop at Finnis General Store and then with the right timing for low tide down on the beach to the mouth of the Murray Rv.  What a lovely spot!!!

Next it was on to Goolwa to check out the sites there and a lunch time bakery stop.

From there we travelled through some beautiful countryside to Victor Harbour then on to Cape Jervis and returning to Adelaide late in the afternoon after following the coastline through more scenic countryside.  The best little gem I would have to say was Second Valley - a lovely spot.

Today we began the next leg of our trip to Perth.  We left Adelaide and wound our way through the hills through Roseworthy which was recently devastated with bush fires, through Yacka, Georgetown and are spending the night at Melrose just a short hop from Port Augusta.  While the temp climbed to 35 degrees the countryside made up for it.

Today has been a relaxing day in Kalgoorlie.  Everything in Kalgoorlie appears to be on the side of xlarge. We Checked out the Superpit from the viewing platform and it's absolutely gigantic.  Went to the underwhelming pub with the glass floor and mine shaft but the drinks are huge too.

We are still continuing on our epic trip.  We left the scorching heat of Perth on Tuesday and have camped at Busselton for the past 2 nights.  It was great yesterday to do some tripping around without the camper trailer so we checked out the lookout at Bunbury, waited for some dolphins to appear but unfortunately they were a no show.

From there we headed off to Gnomesville - what a quirky little spot that was.  Had we been a little more prepared we would have left an Ozstoc gnome - (next time maybe)

Then because we didn't have the trailer we had a lovely ride from Dardanup to Donnybrook and then we could really hook in on a great little windy stretch of about 40 k to Capel.

In the afternoon we checked out the jetty at Busselton the longest walkable timber jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.  Loving this holiday thing and all the sight seeing :hatwave

I'm thinking of a Gnome, painted wearing an OzSTOC Jacket, and travelling around the country with various OzSTOC members, much like the famous "Pudding" which makes it's appearance at the Border Runs.

What a good idea,
Where would you be able to get a Gnome riding a motorbike?
I don"t think that I have ever seen anyhing like that or even one with a tent etc.
Maybe now the hunt will start,

Cheers to all,

We have made it to Ravensthorpe today after leaving Bremer Bay. The bay was absolutely beautiful except for drizzly rain.  Tonight we have air con in motel room trying to dry coats, gloves, boots etc out after negotiating floodwater and rain all the way today. Despite reports of road closures Popeye and Chris continue on and are in Esperence for the night. Hopefully we see sunshine and a break in the weather so we can get on the road again. Our plan is to ride back across the Nullabor over the Easter break. Fingers crossed.

From Norseman we hit the road again and headed East - a smoko stop at Balladonia first then continuing on a total of 720kms for the day to Border Village for o/night.
Today we checked out the cliffs at Border Village and then journeyed on in a very pleasant 22- 23 degrees to Ceduna, checked out the huge windmills at Penong on the way, where Peter suggested a cold drink from the servo, which I was looking forward to. However when we got there we had a cold glass of water out of the fridge and some carrot sticks ( before the border check) . I know now how the Easter bunny feels  WOW.
We are now enjoying a coldie in Ceduna.   :beer

Peter and I made it safely home about lunch time today. We've travelled a tad under 12500 Kms since leaving home almost eight weeks ago.    :13Candy
We have had an absolutely fantastic time, met some wonderful people and spent time with familiar faces forging lasting friendships.  The bike and camper trailer never missed a beat the entire way. We are certainly blessed to be able to complete our great adventure. Would we do it all again. Yes, in a heart beat.
After I've done the sums I'll post up some further details.

We travelled almost 12500kms, the cost of fuel in round figures was $1250 meaning it cost 10c per km.  Not bad really when we towed the camper for most of that distance and were 2 up all the way.  Can't beat that  :thumbs
Staying with fellow Oz Stoc members certainly helped with accommodation but we stayed in CV parks most of the time and accommodation costs were $1500 - the most expensive being a cabin in Perth for five nights.
And yes Garry we did clock up quite a few K's in your car or Stinky Pete's which we could add in as well.
Hopefully Peter and I can have the pleasure of returning the favor some time down the track.   ++ ++

Was not brave enough to add that one up but possibly yes. Interesting across the Nullabor with Stinky Pete we consistently used 1/3 more fuel than he did.

We have both spoken about this ourselves and to be honest  - No there is nothing that stood out as being a problem or issue that  we wish we could of changed.  It was a long way, we saw a lot of different country, scenery and tourist attractions but there is an incredible amount we did not see.  We will go back to WA in the not too distant future. It was like any other holiday , it was TOO SHORT.   >:()
