The IBA biennial Rally is in progress across the USA. If anyone doesn't know about it, it's an 11 day 11,000 miles challenge.
Most competitors have big Harleys, Wings and Beemers, but here's a brief quote from a daily report:
" He said he was still having a great time on the 2002 Honda ST1100. Before the FJR1300 and ST1300, the old Honda ST1100 was arguably the premier sport touring platform for long distance riding. The fact that no one considers a 17 year old ST11 to be a hopeless class entry in the IBR is a testament to the strength of the bike’s reputation and longevity. "
"Hopeless Class" is a reference to anyone who enters riding an old, small or reputedly unreliable type of bike. :clap

Further info- at the end of the first Leg, ST1300s were in the following places:
1, 13, 22, 41, 57 and 81.
The ST1100 was coming 49th.
That is excellent, in a field of 97 starters.
There were 6 competitors pulled out at that stage.
The STs were outnumbered by FJR1300s of which there are 14.
Now if Honda had kept developing the ST13s... :-(((

When I bought the V-Strom I was so much looking for a shaft drive multi-surface bike! The Honda Cross-tourer was perfect: V4, shaft-drive and Honda. I test rode one and found the engine a bit buzzy, but the tiny thing that killed off the idea was the fact that Honda had a brain-fart and put the horn above the indicators on the LH module! If I was going to alternate between the two bikes there would be a lot of unintentional horn blowing. :||||
Why oh why, Honda!?
