My first road trip on my ST1100
« on: April 20, 2016, 08:50:53 PM »
Well I set off on Wednesday 2 days before Good Friday on the 23rd/March for my big adventure ride to Canberra.
It was a great ride down on the Newel Highway with great weather at my back, the first night I got to Moree just on dust and set up camp at a truck stop with a table and seats with a roof, had a comfy sleep. Got up about 0430 and got started on the next leg to Canberra and boy do the LED lights I fitted work well F#@k they stop the drongoes that high beam you. got to Canberra that arvo about 1630.
While down there I spent time with my little grand daughter which was very special for me, My son and I went on a four day ride around the coast area near Nowra and then on to Bathurst where we rode around the track which is so so nice to ride on hard not to give the old girl a thump around there that's for sure.
After ten days I headed off back the coastal roads which was not too bad till you get up near Kempsey and hit that road work.
I met a lot of interesting people on my ride both Bikers and non biker, all like to come up and have a chat about different things.
I met Tex and Bundy the bike riding dog just south of Coffs Harbour and had a three hour lunch with him he is an ex submariner and he and the dog do cancer fundraising what a great day that was to meet these two, after I headed off about 1530 lol I traveled for and hour then stopped for a rest and a cuppa and ended up helping a women with a shredded Tyre on her trailer.
After all that got home about Midnight 2 and a half weeks after heading off, what a trip it was its the best therapy I've ever had I was on a high from the trip and still buzzing from it its so addictive.
I had a few ST riders come up to me and say good aye as well while having a coffee at different towns.
The old girl never used a drop of oil and I averaged around 6.5 lts per 100 which I was happy with as I had the old girl loaded up that's for sure.
Hope every one likes my post Ive included some picks so enjoy and stay safe out there.

++. A great read.  Nowra was my old stomping ground from my navy days.   I must get over there again on the bike.  Thanks for posting

Really nice that you got a chance to chat with people.
Looks like you're no slacker in the riding game- Moree to Canberra in a day is steady travelling.  You might like to have a look at the FarRider's forum.  There have been a few ST1100 riders on there, including our own saaz.
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Thanks for the report.   The next best thing, other than touring myself, is reading about someone else's adventure.   :thumb
