ozstoc.com.au SSL Certificate has expired - 3rd March 2019
« on: March 19, 2019, 12:25:14 PM »
Just a heads up to the site admin, the SSL certificate has expired as of 3rd of this month.

Also the CAPTCHA image on the Contact Us page, is not showing, so the form can't be submitted.

Hi Brock,

I just did a quick test to check out the contact link and also a web search by typing in the address. usually it would accept .com and go straight to the home page but this time it added the .au and went to a security warning page.

I used Chrome for this but only a variation in lay out for IE11

Screenshots below.

I looked up the site on Google and followed the link. I was mobile at the time, couldn't be bothered writing the whole URL in my phone. The website home page (not the forums) loaded with the expired SSL notice.

I went to the Contacts Us page to send the above message about the cert, and the image for the captcha is 'broken', this may be related to the SSL cert.

I had a look, its related to googles (I think) web security push and most web browsers are looking for security certificates.

I just added a security exception and continued on. As for the captcha, I dont know why thats broke.

P.S. I'm not sure if we use ssl protocols, beyond my pay grade.

There are quite a few errors but i don't think the person behind the scenes either doesn't know how to fix or needs help and hasn't called out. I'm still waiting for them to update the Google API key so the map works again.

Brock: The site used to have an SSL https, but then it stopped working. Have you checked with the home page of Captcha for updating the code on the site or updating the plugin you use? If you need help just ask. I let Shiney know but not sure if it went any further than that.

The map has had an issue for quite awhile but it's not just here. Google changed a few things and also asked money for the API key from sites like Tyre who used to use their maps but no longer do. http://www.tyretotravel.com/blog/2018/tyre-stops-with-google-maps/

This is because from 11 June Google Maps will no longer function without the API key and an API key just costs to far much money.

Using the API key doesn't cost money, its free to obtain, Google allows you to use the traffic and obtain free $200 credit per month, yes you need to attach a billing to the account but you also get to place a block on the account if you reach it so you don't go over it.. I use the Google API key on my dive site and have always followed Google API rules for adding new websites and updating the code as well as authorizing the website to use the API. Will just wait for the author to fix it.

The API can be obtained from the developers console https://console.developers.google.com

What plugin are you using for the members section please?

Thank you.

jf3000's dive website does have the maps working :thumbsup

Perhaps Alchemist & jf3000 can contact each other to have a chat and work out a way for it to work for us?

My boys at work had to fix this google maps thing on a client's web site, and what jf3000 says is true.  You do need to setup a billing account but the free $200 per month covers something like 50,000 lookups so there's no way we would go anywhere near it.

I'm putting my hand up too.  If you want it fixed just yell at either jf3000 or myself. Either one of us would be happy to fix it.

I went over the 50,000 and hot 350,000 and it ended up costing me about $70USD. Since the foot traffic here is tiny, I wouldn't worry about it and just implement it.
