I usually wear long leg undies while riding, either the Tradies brand, or LDComfort. This means I get less skin irritation from Kevlar on skin, and my boy bits are comfortable. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the "Step One" bamboo fibre undies that are getting a flogging on telly as riding underwear?

I have a coupla pair of thermal Long Johns, one pair polypropylene, the other Merino wool, can't say that I've noticed much differnence between either pair, but certainly more comfortable and noticable on cold days.
Under them I wear either Bond cotton boxers or Aldi bamboo boxers, can't say there's much difference. I graduated to boxers, from jockey briefs, a few years back after 'breaking-in' a new pair of Daggin Jeans on a SEQ trip, and getting some considerable chaffing down there, had to purchase a pair of silk boxers - well that's the story I told Helen.
Can't say that I've noticed the difference in drying time for the cotton or bamboo undies, but I have noticed that the bamboo socks take longer to dry. This may be a factor to be taken into account when touring.
Now the "Step One" bamboo fibre undies, at around $30 a pair, they'd wanna be pretty damn comfy. Over to others for some informed comment.

Haven't worn any for over 30 yrs> I know that's too much information........2c worth :eek

Not so sure about bamboo undies...
I've tried them but, to be honest I didn't notice any difference other than they didn't seem to last very long before they started to come apart.
Bamboo socks on the other hand, I swear by them and will wear nothing else...(not literally...I wouldn't want to traumatise everyone :rofl)
Last year when I spent 3 weeks in New Zealand I took 2 pairs of socks with me (including the pair I wore on the flight over) and that was only so I'd have something to wear when I eventually gave them a wash.
Seriously, you can easily go a week between changes and they still don't stink! :thumbs
Like Michael said though, they do take longer to dry than normal socks...
Oh, getting back to the undies, I wasn't game to leave them on more than one day... :whistle

Is that why your nutz are rusty?

I could say the undies fell apart cos' of the size of my...er...rusty nutz...
But...that would be telling porkies... :crackup

Turbulence can do that to clothing. :butt

Thunder down under? :fp

The LDComfort riding undies are $50 USD plus shipping, so the Step One alternative at $30 AUD looks reasonable.
-
I wear standard trunks or boxers. Never had an issue with chafing etc.

Rusty,
What brand of socks are they? I'm desperate for some QUALITY socks

I'm not not sure of the current brand, I'll check when I get home after New Years....
But, I've bought a few pairs from Aussie Disposals over the years and they were pretty good quality. Not cheap though, I think they were around $25.00 for 2 pair.
The secret to making them last is to not wash them as often as normal socks....
Cheers :beer

I found the current brand of socks I'm wearing - Mentor Sox. :thumbs
Probably paid through the nose for these as I bought them from a little shop in Marysville but I thought I'd do my bit for their economy - $38.00 for a pack of 3...

There's a little asian lady with a stall at the Victoria Market (in Melbourne for the uniformed), she has three packs for $20 - wouldn't haggle, her response to my $18 offer was no NO NO, so $20 it was.
They only come in bright colours, red and purple, and fluro orange, yellow, green. Helen said yuk! I told myself they were "SAFETY" clours - works for me.
Quality - I'm not sure, nothing to compare with 'em, but the four pair I have have lasted three years, I wear 'em probably five days per week, and have another three years left in 'em.
Hey Russ, at the next RTE we can do a comparison on texture, moisture holding capbities and odour - comparing the latter would only be fair if we have both been wearing them for three days.

Cheers Michael... :thumbs
I've tried a few different varieties over the years, some thin, some thick...I've found the thick ones are definitely the best as far as being more comfortable and longer lasting!
Previously I've looked at the bamboo content thinking the higher bamboo content the better but these latest socks only have a bamboo content of 78%, with 20% nylon & 2% elastane while some other socks I've had previously have had a higher bamboo content.
Most of my previous socks have "shed" little bits of "fluff" when taken off but so far these latest ones have "shed" very little so maybe slightly less bamboo is better??? regardless, I really appreciate less fluff as I don't have to do the vacuuming as often... :rofl
Re the taste smell test I reckon 3 days won't be long enough, I reckon a week at the very least will be needed...and hopefully we have a few 40c plus days beforehand... :whistle :crackup
Any volunteers to do the judging??? :whistle

Pete, what have they done to your thread?? If Prof. Spurrier (aka St. Nicola) should hear of this I am sure the border will be locked down, again, and I would fully support the measure.
-
I can't say I've given undies that much of a thought. Normal undies bought from k-mart have sufficed so far although I do use day labelled ones on multi day overnight road trips.
As for St. Nicola closing the borders again, it's a high possibility and I think I might be going to Eyre Peninsula in march.

Don't know? The thread seems ot have migrated from Undies to Socks :hijacked

Okay, just to get back on topic, I'll try to remember to wear my bamboo undies to the next RTE (along with the bamboo socks) and we can do the "smell" test on both... :grin :p :rofl

:think1 Aren't socks technically considered as underwear? :grin

I sort of thought that too but doesn't "undies" just refer to those of the pant variety?

You might put socks on your boy bits, but I don't. :o
