Tom Tom GPS soaked.
« on: March 25, 2017, 06:47:42 PM »
Got this from a mate today....his Tom Tom Rider 400 is only just over 12 months old but is never on his bike as he rides locally normally in good weather.

Here is its first longer ride in the rain over last 2 days......none of its functions work etc.

Anyone else had issues with the TomTom 400 ??

If the gps can be opened, put it in a ziplock bag with a load of rice. it will help absorb the water.

It should not be turned on, If possible remove the battery, in rice is good but it could take some weeks to dry out. Any wetted electrics should never be turned on until it is definately dry, best dried naturally, ie not with a hair dryer or the like . .

It's supposed to be waterproof if it's the Rider series but the lower left half below the screen seems to have been damaged and maybe causing the sealing to fail. The distribution of the water behind the screen also suggests where the seal has failed.

If you compare the plastic top corner of the unit to the bottom corner you can see that some of the colour has been taken off. Maybe dropped at sometime???

I have the Go 600 (for car) and use it on the bike and it has had a few rain drops on it but only from light rainfall and no water got inside but usually if it's wet the GPS comes off.
