Title: 80K Service

Hi Guys,

New member here and thanks for the welcome so far. Have a 1999 ST100 that I bought for $2700 (good price I thought) but with little to no service history. It had 77K on the clock and I was told that it had a service at 75K. I have just hit 80000km and want to give it to Honda to give it a once over. It rides very well and in the last few months haven't had a single issue with it. I plan on doing an oil change every 5000km myself and giving it back to them every 10000km. Primarily used as a commuter between Gold Coast and Brisbane for work. Just after a heads up on what I'm likely to expect from Honda for an 80K service (price and work needed) and what I might be able to knock back. It will be a balance between keeping a well running bike versus spending unnecessary money on shite I don't need. Sorry if it's been thrashed to death already on here, I do plan to read everything on here, I have only got a couple of days before the service.

Cheers,

Philthy Phil

You've got a good low maintenance bike there.  My advice since it's going well, is just do the essentials.  Check and replace as required brake pads.  Replace ALL fluids just to be sure they're all up to spec.  Replace the two filters. Check all rubber hoses for cracks and leaks and replace if at all suspect.  Inspect inside the tank for corrosion. Alan might pop in with other items he's become aware of.  I'd expect a bill in the vicinity of $700.  It's a lot, but it need only be paid every 50 to 100 thou kays, depending on what you are able and willing to do yourself apart from oil changes.
You can check and replace light bulbs yourself.
As you have seen elsewhere, Brisbane M/C at Windsor are very good. Since you come to Brisbane to work you could leave it there for the day.

Thanks Biggles. Yeah was thinking in the vicinity of $600-700. And yes can handle the basics fairly well. Just wanted to get a good base and go from there. Cheers.

I just change the oil and filter every 12,000km as stated in the manual.

Final drive oil every 2nd or 3rd oil change (30,000km in the book)

I use Nulon red long life coolant which is good for eight years but I'd go five years.

Inspect the timing belt at 100,000 km and replace no later than 150,000.

Two coolant hoses go into the V which aren't easy to inspect would be a definite need for a check. On earlier models the elbows that the hoses join to were prone to cracking. I'd be looking to replace those two hoses when checking the timing belt.

Low fuel warning sensor is prone to failure and it's not that hard to fix.

I haven't had any major issues with the ABS/TCS or the Combined Brakes (CBS) and you have an 1100A as well.

Biggest pain in the butt is the final drive and lack of or incorrect grease on the splines - there's a few posts on this. Everytime the rear wheel comes out the splines need to be greased.

Also with Brisbane Motorcycles:
1. If you ask in advance, they have loan bikes while yours is serviced.
2. Not far from the train station
3. Not far from a bus stop.
