Pezzz left my place 15 mins ago after install of Rostra cruise control, I have taken pics and will do a write up. Now I know what to do it is pretty straight forward.
On a test ride yesterday it had some surging when initially set, will wait to see his report from his ride home.

Made it home safe and sound. Had dinner at Alfred's on the way with Wombat. Tried cruise but surging was quite drastic at speed. Set at 100, would bolt up to about 104 then drop to about 80 than back up and down etc. I will play with dip switches tomorrow as it is currently getting wrong pulse info. On another note, put ride on in tyres and the trip back was very smooth .... like super smooth. Also fan switch is working now :-) .....
Will keep this updated ...
Yorkie, you are a true gentleman and I thank you very much for your help. Thanks also to my taxi driver Wombat. Next couple of FR lunches are on me.

OK,  so a quick update .... after 100km of testing running around the block on highway and main roads, I have the unit working satisfactorily. It appears at 60 or 70, the bike surges as it seems to over compensate the speed then drop back and do again. At 80 to 100, once speed is set, it seems to stick to it quite well. I did a small hill at 80 and it was fine. The wild surging i had early in the day was because pickup was too close to magnets. Thanks for the tip Wombat, after moving away it started behaving properly. I am also running just 4 magnets inside the brake disc bolt heads which gives me 2000 pulses per km which can be set on the dip switches. The 3000 pulse per km from the magnets was not an option to set. Yorkie had some pics that hopefully he will put up in here or new thread in ST1100 or Farkles section.
This would have been much harder without the help from Yorkie so I would like to thank him very much. I will probably keep tweaking and playing over the weekend and once i have the best i can get i will post final settings and mods.

Great work, look forward to pics and write up of install. What was the total final cost of the bits n pieces required for the install?

Adjusting the magnet gap is important to get the unit operating smoothly at the speeds you want to use the cruise. I found with the McCruise that half the number of magnets actually seems to work better, but the DIP switch settings are not documents and have to be obtained from the McCruise guys according to the computer you have.

Hey Saaz,
The Rostra manual comes with a table on what dip switch does what but there was no setting for 3000 ppk. There is a signal multiplier you can buy from them so I could use all 6 magnets and set switch to 6000 ppk if i wanted to but this will do for now.
STroppy, the total cost of unit was around $380 delivered from EvilBay ...  plus Yorkie bought me some little rare earth magnets and i don't know how much they were.

I have been looking to add cruise control to my bike since an unfortunate conversation with someone on the side of the road near Southern Cross    :law :law
Have had a look around and cannot justify $1000 for a unit and found this Rostra one on an American site.
What are your thoughts ???
Has anyone done this before ???
Who in WA wants to help ...  ????   LOL ....

I just ordert one from Murph's kit. Total cost just under AU$ 500.00. Just was bad timing with or dollar going down but the alternative is a new bike (BMW S1000R) with all the bells and wistels or an un-wanted/un-needed speeding fine. Should be here within a week. Will post progress as it happens.

Got the Rostra CC but the first problem is size. The thing is to big to fit in the tail and I am looking for other places suitable to install. One place would be using the pocket space on the left. Any advice would be nice. Stripped the bike naked and it is looking very sad.

Hope that helps :)

Somebody in the US claims to have it installed in the fairing near the headlight somewhere.

The front looks like it might be possible, but the unit curious1 has is not as flat as the one in Pezz's picture, it is more like that but with a dome on top. Quite different to other ones I have seen.  It would fit in the ST1100 tail, but the ST1300 is a different beast.

That's good news about the magnet gap that solved your surging problem it will make such a difference to the enjoyment of your ride.
On another note I think that I told you that I was fitting one of those units to the MX5, that has been done and it works superbly, I now feel quite confidant that I have now tamed the beast, especially as the turbo install  has poked the available HP. up to an estimated 200 plus .
