RHS Knock Sensor
« on: July 24, 2020, 04:29:23 PM »
Hi all,
I'm slowly becoming very active in this forum which I guess is a good thing. After seeing the error 26 I've finally gotten the time to take the plastics off the side and get into the internals (still waiting to get the airbox off).. I have seen that the clip for the knock sensor is pretty much rooted and the wires have some exposed areas and it looks like a previous owner has heat shrinked their own job onto it. My question is would it be reasonable to cut the old sensor off and solder a new one onto the existing loom? And is there a way I can test if this wire is even connefted IE turn the bike to accessories to see if there is a reading with a multimeter or does the bike need to be running for the sensor to activate?
Cheers
Shaun

The wire goes to a connector on the ECU, so it would be possible to test for continuity between the ECU and the sensor. This would involve a bit of circuit reading and manual dexterity.

Repairing the wiring would be possible if you can locate a new plug, suitable wire and crimping tools. to simply splice in a new bit of wire would be a challenging task, and word need specialist knowledge and skills.

The right Knock sensor failure indication is fairly common, not sure if a solution has been found.

Sensor connector available here..

There is a high likelihood that the ECU is damaged. It is worth replacing the plug but the most common result is that the error continues because of the ECU.

Ive pulled the fairings off the RHS while I wait for parts (Cracked my fuel joiner hose and my Honda shop thinks it will take 3-4 months to get one in from the states) and Ive noticed that the previous owner has done a touch up job previously but haven't insulated the wire/area correctly and has burnt away some of the wires sheath leaving parts of the wire exposed, so I will be ordering a new connector plug pigtail and splice & re solder the wire with some heat shrink. Ill probably look at added some exhaust wrap to kill some of the heat getting into that area. I had a look at the ECU as well and looks like the previous owner has already installed another ECU from a wrecker in victoria (Business markings) so Im hoping that that ECU isn't faulty and it could just be the exposed wire causing some issues (Possibly damaged in other areas)
