After drooling over the ST1100 since she first came out and a break from riding for almost 15 years my dream is about to come true  :runyay

Just purchased a 2002 ST1100PY.  :wht11

I'll be flying over to Adelaide to take possession and then riding her back Tasmania (her orginal home as it happens).
I'm looking forward to my first road trip in a long while.

Strangely my 20+ year old Johnny Rebs are numerous sizes too small...the wet weather membrane in my riding gear has dissintegrated...helmet has gone missing and my gloves are in my helmet!
Time to go shopping :)

I'll be looking for feedback from wet weather riders for a new set of touring gear, I want 100% waterproof and not a shitty waterproof membrane that will fall apart in a few years.
Is Gore Tex my only option?
Looking forward to scouring my way through these forums for all manner of useful tips, such as the H4 bulb adapter topic I came across earlier today, thanks for that.

Cheers for now.

Mech.

Welcome Mechwarrior :hatwave (Great handle and also a good game :grin)

If you’re after gear that’ll last years and be 100% waterproof the Gore Tex gear is the way to go :thumb also checkout the BMW gear, its pricy but very good gear from all accounts.

Anyway welcome to the forum :runyay

Cheers

Thanks for the warm welcome. Just picked up the keys this morning and rode her from Adelaide to Melbourne! My arse is telling me I should have taken an extra break! My first ride in 15 years. I started off a little rusty, stalling the bike in the driveway. Still a lot of work to do on my skills with this bike and I hope to have time next weekend to work on my figure of eights etc. shopping tomorrow for some bike gear that isn't 20 years old and smelling of mould!. Cheers for now.

Well done Mech, 15 years is a good old gap, glad the ride went well.
As you have found out the 1100 seat isn't to everybody's liking.  I'm supposing that it's a standard seat, there's a lot who have changed the seat in one way or another. Sheep skin pads seem to be a good choice. I'm lucky I suppose I actually like the standard seat.
