Two motorcyclists have died after leaving the road and crashing into trees at Brinkley, south of Murray Bridge.
A fire truck, an SES rescue vehicle and a police car block a country road
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene on Brinkley Road, just south of Pearson Road, about 1:30pm on Saturday.
Police said both motorcycles were travelling north when they left the road and crashed into trees.
Both riders, a 27-year-old man from Panorama and a 31-year-old man from Magill, died at the scene.
The South Australian Government announced on Saturday it would introduce laws to Parliament to increase the minimum age for a motorcycle learner's permit from 16 to 18.

  Does anyone know if speed was a contributing factor? Were they racing? Was there cars involved? Such little info on this

The government response isn't to this one incident,  but to the motorcycle deaths over the past two years.  As for the Brinkley incident, few details were given on the news last night.  I've ridden that road and it's quite straight.  My first thought was along the lines of what Draco said.

I had a young person ask me this week is it a good idea to get a motorcycle licence.  I said it's a wonderful activity BUT it's becoming so hard to achieve now, and you have to be really very determined to go through with it.  So now they've added another impediment to the existing rising cost and long time commitment.
As we couch analysts are saying, this sad event has "racing" written all over it.  And that's the problem.  Motorcycling, in common with mountain climbing, scuba diving and flying, is very unforgiving of error.

Hopefully they don't follow Queensland's ridiculous requirement of having to hold a car licence for 12 months before obtaining a motorcycle learners permit...

Yeah. It’s easy to judge, but for them to both come off the road while travelling the same direction does sound like they were having a race and pushing way beyond sane boundaries. And they weren’t ‘stupid teenagers’ either. Some behaviour just can’t be regulated against no matter how hard they try.

According to the local news, they were riding at very high speed in a group and the two bikes left the road on a gentle bend.     Stopping 16 year olds from undertaking motorcycle training to enhance their road skills will not stop this kind of accident.    Who knows how the govt thinks preventing new drivers/riders from getting additional training early, is a useful strategy.

Here in Victoria, Vicroads, during an inquiry into motorcycle safety (years ago) admitted they'd do nothing to encourage new motorcyclists. Think they got their bum kicked over it...
I'm sure nothing has changed though, they are probably just a bit more careful who they admit that to...
