That’s never stopped you in the past  :p

But it generally has stopped me because of my embarrassing limited endurance  :-[

Ruth and I might be a go for this one. Any excuse to get away for a long weekend is a good one.

Can it be assumed that arrangements will be along the line of the previous cancelled Mudgee NatRalliy, ie. based at the Big4, a Saturday ride and the Saturday dinner at the Paragon (or was it the Oriental?)- whichever, they had a damn good menu?

Can't get to know these details too soon so as accommodation bookings can be made early.

The quoted price I got over the phone after mentioning ozstoc when asked was no different to the website price not that it makes any difference to me. There was no discount at Mannum either but what little difference it would be I'm happy to pay the normal rate after what these places went through during covid.

The availability on the website was low but this may be a marketing ploy perhaps.

Looking at booking- cabin $465 (less 10%) but no cancellations acceptable!
Mudgee is a dear town to stay in, apparently.  However the park at the other end of town is $397 and accepts cancellations.
While it's inconvenient, it's worth the commute for the comfort of knowing you don't lose the lot if you can't get there for any reason.

While it's inconvenient, it's worth the commute for the hundred bux, but most definitely for the comfort of knowing you don't lose the lot if you can't get there for any reason.

When I look, it's $310 for two nights (Fri & Sat) for two people in a two bedroom cabin.

Yeah I agree that the possibility of losing a chunk of cash due to unforseen circumstances is not attractive.  Most places will let you cancel without cost as long as it's not at the last minute.

I don't know where Biggles got his no-cancel policy from because it states:

CANCELLATION FEES
If you cancel your reservation with us, cancellation fees are payable as follows:
Low & Shoulder Seasons: Cancellations within 7 days of the arrival date incur a cancellation fee equivalent to the total booking tariff. Cancellations 8 days or more before arrival incur a cancellation fee equivalent to one night of the total booking tariff, being the minimum deposit paid.

And to be fair after COVID stopped us from going there twice already I fully understand why they have it in place.
Title: Re: 2023 - National Rally - MUDGEE NSW
Post by: CallMeSteve on November 25, 2022, 02:20:03 PM
Probably more accurate to say 'no refund' policy rather than 'no cancellation'.  Which to me means that I have to pay one night's fee at time of booking, and if I need to cancel (even if it's months before the event) I will lose that.
Title: Re: 2023 - National Rally - MUDGEE NSW
Post by: Biggles on November 25, 2022, 02:43:45 PM
Replying to all the above since my last post-
I'm looking at 3 nights, leaving Monday.
The info I have was ambiguous, but I agree with Marcus's info, that you only lose your deposit 8 days or more before.  One week before and they charge you the whole whack (which is a bit savage- but that's their prerogative).
There's also an implied waiver if the late cancellation is unavoidable- for instance an accident or sudden sickness.
So we can add Mrs Biggles to my listing and we'll be in a single bedroom cabin from Friday to Monday.  I doubt Mudgee is as fascinating as Mannum where I happily spent all day Sunday touristing.

Post by: CallMeSteve on November 25, 2022, 02:53:11 PM
I can't see anything that implies a waiver for emergencies, but in the interest of living dangerously (which is what we do as bikers anyway) I'll be booking a cabin there for Ruth and myself. Probably for 3 nights so we can have a look around on Sunday before we head back.

I'm quoting the lady who took my booking- "We take the circumstances into consideration".  So for what it's worth, there's the verbal comfort.

Just to add to the confusion...I just looked on Booking.com/Big 4 Mudgee and it says "Non-refundable" but...then I looked at the Big4 Q & A's and found this:

What is refund policy

If you cancel outside of 7 days before arrival $50.00 will be deducted from your deposit
with the remaining refunded and if you cancel within 7 days it will be a full loss of deposit.

I booked a 2 bedroom cabin for 3 nights, Friday to Sunday nights inclusive. They let me use the deposit credit from my 2021 booking . . $143, so I am happy with that. I think I am up for $155 per night, but could be less with a OzSTOC bargained discount or my Big4 membership.

I'm booked.  When I rang all the Standard 1 bedroom cabins were gone (all to OzSTockers) so I had to rough it and grab the last of the deluxe cabins.  They do still have other cabins though, so there's room for even more OzSTockers. Should be a terrific turnout.

I always call the Hotel, CV Park, Motel etc direct to make a booking. The Bookings.com and the like only get an allocation of accommodation and so one quite often gets that msg about nothing left when there actually is. They also hassle you by saying last one available - never use them to actually make a booking.

I use booking.com regularly, particularly if there are clear, suitable cancellation conditions, and then if the cancellation date is very close to the stay (sometimes even on the day).  Got fingers burnt a coupla times when booking directly with the establishment, never with booking.com.

I will be attending the Mudgee rally and hopefully my Partner Penny will be able to attend , looking at the Big4 Website all the cabins appear to be booked out for that Weekend may have to look elsewhere but will ring the park and see what can done , I know it’s a long way out yet.

The dinners on both the Friday & Saturday nights were very good, and would be very happy for the NatRally 2023 dinner to be held at the Oriental.  I'm sure others would agree - let's see.

It would be a decent walk (both ways) between the Big4 and the Oriental.  Hoping a couple of bus runs can be organised, otherwise the Joso Taxi Service will be pretty busy.  You okay organising some of these things, or is some assistance needed?

Hope you can give us some tips on Hill End, that's my preferred destination for lunch on the Saturday.  I've visited / stayed Mudgee about five times, Hill End has been on the wish list for a while, but just haven't been able to fit it in - this time for sure.

After Friday meet & greet, might wander into the Orient or was it the Paragon (the one where they had the Chinese menu)?   I reckon Nigel would agree.

I originally booked a cabin for the Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights but have now booked for the Thursday night as well.
Theresa flies into Sydney Friday lunch time and will catch a train to Lithgow. I will now have plenty of time to check in, unload the bike on Thursday and pick Theresa up Friday afternoon. We should be back just in time for the meet and greet. Theresa does the reverse Sunday and I ride out early Monday morning heading for Balranald.

It looks like I may be the sole SA representative & it's now more likely I will be able to attend.

However, I haven't booked any accommodation as I wasn't sure if I'd get there.

All the cabins now booked.

My question is does anyone have a spare room that they'd be willing to let & share the cost?

Otherwise, I'll probably drive over & set the camper trailer up.

I'm actually easy either way, but if pushed, I'd rather ride than drive.

Hey Michael, glad you weren't holding breath waiting for a response.  Rest assured, you won't need to sleep on the grass.

Nigel has booked a cabin, I have a bunk in the second bedroom, if no one else offer you a better bed, I reckon you can have the bunk above me.  Although I warn you, the snoring and gas coming from Nigel's room keeps people awake in the next cabin.

It doesn't look like anyone knows, but I think it would be reasonable to assume that the organisers will arrange for the shirts to match the order.

So would that mean if I order one shirt, I would get size S; two shirts size SM; three would get me size M, etc.
Why would I want six shirts all the same?

Not sure if I follow that logic.

I think it's reasonable to assume, if you order a small, you get a small; order a medium, get a medium; a large, get large; and so on.

I rang up and cancelled our accommodation at the Big 4 caravan park this morning
It is going to cost me the deposit $167.83 to cancel
So be aware and it is written on the deposit invoice
Never heard of it before
So if someone is chasing accommodation there is another cabin available

I seem to recall, some cancellations were offered a credit.  It's shame that Big4, or at least some parks, aren't more flexible with refunds or credits.  In the end, it's likely to inflict more long-term pain on them through the damage to their reputation and some (perhaps like both of you) never using Big4 again.  Sometimes these people forget who is buttering their bread.

Re. a credit, I was offered one in 2021, deferred a decision on that to the last minute, luckily we had a COVID lockdown breakout and I (and a few others) attended the OzSTOC Not-the-NatRally at Mudgee, and pretty good time was held by all.   For those that missed these earlier.

Cancellation fees
Your ability to claim cancellation costs from a
customer depends on certain factors. If you charge
a cancellation fee, booking fee or administrative
charge, it should not be excessive; otherwise, it may
be regarded as an unfair contract term. You should
consider limiting the fee to the reasonable costs
associated with making the booking and, if relevant,
preparing the accommodation for the customer’s
arrival, or reserving services for their use.
If the guest has paid you a deposit, then cancels
the booking without a good reason (for example,
if they just change their mind), you will usually be
able to keep the deposit depending on the terms
of the contract.
Generally, a fair deposit should not be more than
10 per cent of the total cost of the accommodation
or service booked, unless your potential loss or
inconvenience justifies a higher amount. Otherwise,
such a higher amount may be seen as a pre-payment.
Pre-payments are refundable, minus any actual or
reasonable costs you may have incurred before the
booking was cancelled.

I travel a lot within Australia and find that conditions vary greatly from pay on arrival to having to pay for at least the first night in full months ahead. Mudgee was happy to turn my booking into a credit each time the rally dates changed.

It is a hard one, I see two cases:-
1. They have turned down another booking because they were full and now end up with your room empty some sort of charge is reasonable
2. They turned down another booking because they were full but get another booking in place of yours it would be reasonable to get all your deposit back.

Just my thoughts before one boycotts them.

I think it depends on which destination and which agency is used.  Some destinations won't offer a refund, whereas some agencies will, and vice versa.

Personally. I use Booking.com more often than not, found them very reliable and now as a regular user, often get a discount.  Never had a bad experience, most good and once in NZ an excellent outcome.  This was when the destination couldn't process my debit card payment, accused me of providing the wrong number, then sent emails with so much vitriol that I sent them to Booking.com.  They settled the matter by bouncing the destination off Booking.com and cancelled my payment altogether because I was a trusted, reliable member.  Good service from my point of view, and reason for me to stay with them.

In the end, what ever floats your boat, horses for courses, etc ...

Just checked with Booking.com, they don't have a refund option with BIG4 Mudgee Holiday Park.

Since we're off on this tangent, I'll agree that Booking dot com have been good for me.  However they are tough on their accommodation providers in terms of the fee they extract, so it's not uncommon to see a notice at reception saying they'll give you a discount if you'll book directly with them rather than via Booking.com.
That said, their website is so very helpful I keep using them.

My 2c worth. Seems a bit naughty not to be able to cancel a booking, months out and lose the lot.
But that is the world we live in. They call it Greed!
Not very ethical.
I also booked directly with them, ONLY FOR THE BENEFITS that a booking exists.
May also look at other options.

See ya there. :spank

If anybody wants to takeover a 2 Bedroom cabin from the 12th to the 15th of October please ring Mudgee big 4 and tell them you are taking over Philip Mitchell's booking and you will get the first night paid for by my deposit.
Better somone from Ozstoc than the park gets paid twice for the room.  :hatwave :runyay:  :Blow

Leanne & I will be attending yee haa.

Of note - accommodation for the Saturday night is getting scarce & what there is is getting expensive, we have settled for a cabin in the Riverside Caravan Park as Big 4 couldn't accommodate us & the cheapest hotel I found was $330 per night, hopefully if anyone else is booking they have better luck.

How dare they hold a referendum on the weekend of our AGM ??
We have better things to do than stand in line just to write 'Yay" or "Nay"

I guess someone will have to find the local venue for us to attend that day?

3 months ago our 9 year old Kelpie Collie X finished 20 weeks of Chemo for Lymphoma Cancer and unfortunately we discovered that the lumps in his neck have returned. We have opted not to put him through the treatment again and started pain relief for the remaining month or so that we believe he will be on this earth. As a result we will not be attending the Rally and ask if our names can be taken off the list please.
For those attending the Rally enjoy.

Working on my route for the meeting. An easy ride, eveything in moderation.

Day 1 Portland to Werribee on Wednesday 11th , meet up with TIPTO and stay overnight.
Day 2. Werribee to  Narrandera on Thursday where we meet up with Stroppy, who is travelling from Canberra.
Stay overnight.
Day 3 Friday. Narrandera to Mudgee, should arrive mid afternoon.

Roughly 3 and a half+ hours ride Wednesday,, and about 5 hours ride on Thursday and Friday.+ some rest stops

Today I started packing all the gear I need to take with me for the trip.
I know, I know, it's still a week and a half away, but best to be organised early, right?

I called them to confirm my accommodation earlier this week and was told the same thing, so it wont become a surprise if I see my credit card balance balloon.

G’day, I’m leaving Friday in the KimbUs around midday and going straight to Mudgee via Bells Line of Road.
I won’t be bringing BEEstY  :Spyder and the Hive. I went on a ‘Spririted’ really fun ride with 17 others a few weeks ago to Oberon and the route home via Tarago was in bad condition. I jarred my neck a few times and it’s taking its toll disrupting my sleep and other things.  Maybe it’s time to listen to the specialist and “stop ✋🏾 wearing a helmet” , so I will be offering up STranger  :dred11 for offers of a new home at the rally.
I’ll also be bringing some 1100 bits and pieces.
I I booked my powered site till Tuesday and looking forward to another Rally 2023.  :Blow with you all !  :beer :beer :beer :popcorn  :eat :spank

Looks like Ruth and I will doing another tintop trip. Ruth has just been diagnosed as a type-1 diabetic and has started on the fine art of injecting herself with insulin. Her doctor felt that a long bike trip in the early days of getting used to it would not be a smart idea.  I thought about getting a new doctor! But he is actually rather good, so we will pander to his request this time.

I think I’m feeling the same as Mrs B, had a hard day in the garage changing wheels n tyres with a extremely sore back, finding it very hard to bend over and get back up again - tools are hidden all over due to a very disorganised decluttering attempt!

Eg; Where the Friday night Meet and Greet will be
Where the Saturday night Dinner will be, what time and how we are getting there
Are there Rides arranged for Saturday and Sunday, what places there are to meet for lunch and Breakfast

A few of us have aged considerably today…..

Here is the go for full transparency, Rally Shirts haven’t arrived to me at this stage and it’s a slim chance they will in time for us to leave as planned on Thursday morning.

The courier was selected by the vendor based on their Sender to Receiver (Toowoomba QLD to Guyra NSW) of 5 working days per their website search.

So here is the guts of it, the shirts were purchased and printed at our usual supplier and rally sponsor in Toowoomba QLD. They were packaged and checked into the couriers depot on the 28th of September in Toowoomba per tracking information now available. The carton didn’t leave Toowoomba until 3rd October. Six days later  :||||

The carton was forwarded to their Depot in Brisbane….delivery date to Guyra was advised by tracking to be Wends the 5th, but no show, then updated to Friday the 7th with no show and a call to the company ensued ……now updated and confirmed by their tracking as Monday the 9th for arrival.

You guest it nothing….so this morning the calls, logging of complaints commenced and escalated to the courier companies call centre that’s not on this continent I would suggest. All this happening from the Sender and the Receiver end……it was getting really ugly with this company that may start with an A and may or may not end with an X……

All we wanted was the location of the carton right now and we will collect. We established early in the day that the shirts were in their warehouse in Brisbane since the 3rd of October and had not been processed further.

A quick SOS on the forum gave us two plans….1. PC would drive Warwick to Briz and collect and I would jump in the Ute and head for Warwick. Plan 2 was Phil S who was in Brisbane and would collect and leaving tomorrow driving past my place 6 hours later……easy, we had a solid plan.

Now it really went Tits up !!! The company wouldn’t divulge where the carton was, wouldn’t allow pickup for privacy/security reasons and would not refer us to supervisors/managers to call us back, just the same scripted , “we have logged your concern and you will be contacted in due course”……the call, email never came.

The parcel was processed to an undisclosed region partner carrier late this afternoon….with no tracking available.

So the plan…..if it arrives tomorrow (extremely unlikely) plans all good, but we only get parcel deliveries Mon/Wend/Friday to our small town so won’t be Thursday……if it’s Friday (most likely) it’s about 4:30 in the afternoon.

So will hit the car and be in Mudgee by about 10pm and set up camp, and make up rally packs early Saturday morning for distribution.

If they don’t arrive Friday…….we’ll were fooked with a big stick !! and I’ll worry about it then.

Positive thoughts please….. :-++

My day is done in Penrith.
Stopped in at Grey Gums on the Putty but the Cafe was shut.

Managed to check into the hotel at 10:30am. Might have a nap, pop next door to the Penrith Panthers then go check out a local Brewery.

Hi everyone, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the Mudgee AGM & catching up with you all.

I was extremely tired when there from recent surgery and not able to take part in as many activities I would have liked to. Have seen my doctor and she has ordered a full range of pathology tests and she thinks the surgery, having had Covid and old age (WTF) could all be contributing to my weariness!

Theresa and I really enjoyed the Mudgee Rally, well done all of those involved in organising it.
As normal my ride over and back had a few detours.
To Mudgee was via Victor Harbor, Albury and Canberra.
From Mudgee return was via Loxton to Adelaide airport parking. Fly to Perth Tuesday night, back to Adelaide Friday, pickup the bike and head for VIctor Harbor. Attended the first race meeting at the The Bend Drag Raceway (by car). Departed Victor Harbor Monday morning and arrived home this afternoon.
All up about 9,200 kms and 515 litres of fuel.
Bike purred along until about 50kms from home when both left and righthand indicators stopped working, add another job to the list.

STroppy
Double darkside is a car tyre on the rear and rear bike tyre (in my case a BT46) on the front.
First BT46 did 42,000kms and was only change due to the upcoming ride to Broken Hill.
I don't ride hard enough to really tell how it compares in the twisties but Onesie has just fitted one and was saying at the rally he was very happy with it.
