1993 ST1100 - no electrical power
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:52:18 PM »
Went to start it today ....battery is fresh - been running fine.

Got a bank of proper lights.

Hit the starter....

Heard a click under me.

Then nada.  :||||

Suspect a fuse   - took of on the KLR to go where I was going to on the ST and will trouble shoot when I get back.
Have a service manual.

Any insight?? Glad it was in the driveway.  :well

Unfortunately, it sounds like a flat battery. If you have a multi meter handy, check the battery voltage as you press the start button, if it drops below 10 volts battery is dead.

Its not unusual for a battery to suddenly fail.

Don't think so ....
there is usually enough to light the panel ....( having just been through this on the KLR )
Battery was fine and tended - - bike started and ran every few weeks.

Will pull the side cover shortly and we will see thanks

Have you tried clipping jumper leads to a car and trying to start, that will give some more information..

Have a look at the connector going into the top of the starter relay. It is a well known area of failure, and tends to heat up and lose connection, or at worst melt.  All the power to the fuse boxes go up through the ignition switch and back down again.  Usually power to the dash goes when you try and start.
