cluncking sound comming from rear?
« on: September 28, 2014, 08:32:48 PM »
hi guys i was just wondering if anyone has any idea what the cluncking noise is that is coming from the rear of my bike ...  when im riding slowly over bumps on the road or over rough areas on my dirt drive way it sounded like my panniers, so i took them off. but the sound is still there.. i also put new tyres on my bike and asked the tyre fitter to have a look at my rear wheel bearings , but they look and felt fine.. im at a lose where and what this noise is,, has anyone had a similar problem ... doesnt seem to affect the bikes handling ..i ride a 1990 st1100 excop. thank you .. :||||

The only bushing that could be replaced on the shock is the top one.

If it's 1990 you could possibly replace the shock unit and keep the old spring but it's easier to just replace the unit.

The first police came out in 1993 (just look for the model on the frame under the seat at the sticker) and you just replace the shock anyway.

This you'll give you an idea on how to change the shock if that is the issue.

 hijack,
:think1 have you checked your cush rubbers, if their worn could make a clunk , can be a lot of slack possible alloy on alloy wear, worth checking.  :grin
