Mansfield area rides.
« on: February 26, 2024, 07:51:23 PM »
I'm putting together some rides that i intend to do in the 5 days i'm in the area.

Some of these will be timed to avoid the weekend cycling event.

Starting off with this ride probably on the Saturday.
Mansfield - Alexandra - Eildon - Jamieson - Mt Buller - Mansfield.
Can be done clockwise or anticlockwise. I intend on going anticlockwise.

Looks like a great ride, but beware, there are those pesky pushbike buffoons closing roads for their competitions Saturday and Sunday. I cannot recall which roads they were using either day.

One day you will wake up and there won't be anymore time to do the things you've always wanted so do them NOW!!!
Remember there are 7 days in a week and Someday isn't one of them!

A good choice, now that it's all sealed (I rode the ST from Jamieson to Eildon before it was sealed, it wasn't much fun).  That section can get busy with 4WD on the weekend, but for a good, alert rider, you should be okay.

Many of us didn't consider ourselves buffoons when roads were closed for our cycling events.

Thursday morning i'm intending to head off from Yackandandah down to Mount Beauty and Falls Creek turning around at WTF corner at the Omeo Hwy intersection. Having done the Omeo Hwy previously i'll backtrack along the Bogang High Plains Rd - Kiewa Valley Highway then make a left onto Tawong Gap Rd to Bright then up Mount Buffalo for a squizz then heading for Mansfield.

I have previously detailed the road closures and tacked them onto Mr Lamers Facebook post about the event mainly for my own purposes.

Find it here with detailed cycling routes for Saturday and Sunday.

I have planned rides to avoid these lycra clad peddle pushers.

Forget Mansfield --> Benalla --> Wangaratta --> Milawa, take this instead:  https://maps.app.goo.gl/HHKBpom77SXoMSY47

I'd also recommend: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XPph7fe3JAJ7qQst8

And Google Lockarts Gap and Tawonga Gap.

I figure after 8 hours i'll be rooted so i intend to do this another day when rested and fresh.

I have done Omeo to Harrietville 3 times, staying at Dinner Plain once.

I can recommend the Eildon to Jamieson run...  :thumbs
I've done it a couple of times now, once when I attended the "Not the Jamieson RTE" where I was the only attendee and one other time with my nearest and dearest...
The road surface was good bitumen and, surprisingly, the road was fairly quiet with just the occasional vehicle and a number of motorcycles heading in the opposite direction.

For those that don't do Facebook, here's a link to what is happening with the pushies... https://www.mmbcc.org.au/mansfield-tour
