Maintenance Day in SA
« on: September 05, 2014, 05:17:00 PM »
The Proposed SA Maintenance Day Has Been Deferred

Who would be interested in an SA Basic Maintenance Day?

I'm thinking simply about the following.....
1.   Oil and Filter Change
2.   Brake Pad Inspect and Change
3.   Air Filter Change
4.   All Fluid Checks (Engine oil, Coolant, Brake & Clutch, Final Drive)
5.   Anything else?

Sadly I'm no mechanic, and get most of my work done at the local Honda dealer, who I have grown to trust.  We therefore need to identify somewhere central, and someone with basic skills who can demonstrate the above.

Depending on the date we could come down. I haven't played in city traffic for a little while so could be fun.

Hi Pete. Happy to offer a place to meet.   My workplace has a well lit undercover car park near the south road port road intersection.   Can fit 20 plus cars so a few bikes are not a problem.  Only down side is that we are 500 metre from the new crispy crimes shop.   Richo

Thanks for the generous offer Richo.  :thumb   We now have a location, and just need someone with the expertise to guide us.  I might have a chat to the Service Manager at my Honda Dealer and see if someone would be willing to put their hand up and support OzSTOC in this way.  It might be a way for them to pick up some business.

Please post if you would be interested in attending such a Maintenance Day.

A maintenance day sounds like a great idea. I would like to know how to remove all the fairing and painted bits on the ST. We will have our ST in Adelaide mid Nov. and would definitely attend.

Depending on the date I would be interested. I do most of whatyou have listed, but would like to catch up with some S.A. ST owners and maybe learn / share a few tips and tricks.

Have you downloaded the templates from the US site for the fasteners for all the tuppedware? If you use them it ensures you have all the fasteners out and that makes removing them quite simple. I was pretty nervous the first time and then realised how simple it was.

ST13 is quite different to the ST1100 in terms of fairing etc, so anyone interested in ST1300s should go to have a look. FJR1300s are another issue altogether - I am learning too much about working on dirfferent bikes...

Thanks for the link Aussie Boy but mine is an ST1100 and a fair bit different from the 13. My fault, I should have been clearer. Is there a template for the ST11?
Cheers

I don't know  about a template for the 1100.  Basic maintenance on the 1100 doesn't involve to much removing  of panels  and any screw or bolt can always be put back where it came from which is all I do.

Here's a link that I found for removal of fairings on the ST1100.    Google is your friend.

Hi all,
I've been negotiating but have been unsuccessful at securing the services of a professional motorcycle mechanic to run an SA Maintenance Day for us.
We have a suitable large under cover venue in a central location thanks to Richo, so I'm putting out the request for anyone with the skills to instruct and demonstrate the following regular tasks.....

1.   Oil and Filter Change
2.   Brake Pad Inspect and Change
3.   Air Filter Change
4.   All Fluid Checks (Engine oil, Coolant, Brake & Clutch, Final Drive)
5.   Bodywork removal

A date is still to be decided on.   If anyone within SA has the required skills and knowledge, please put your hand up now.   Otherwise, if there is a skilled volunteer ST person interstate, who would like to visit SA, and stay at my place for a couple of days, perhaps you could either post or PM me.

If we can't secure someone, I'll defer this idea and raise it again down the track.

Thanks Pete, I too have a manual telling me in full size, glossy pages how to remove my fairing but being a "Monkey see, Monkey do" type of Bloke, I could really benefit from someone who has done the job to walk me through it. I'm not a mechanic, just a keen amateur, willing to learn. Looking forward to your maintenance day.

I'm happy with removing and replacing bodywork on the ST1300, so if you want to come up home sometime, I'll go through it with you.   :thumb

I could do an IBA to get there and home  :think1

squeeze a quick 4 hour class in the middle of an SS1600.  That will look good on the certificate!    :thumbsup

or is it an SS2000 with a one hour class?
