Is there an itinerary for the rally yet?
Will there be a formal (using the term loosely of course) dinner? With speeches and awards and....stuff? I'm pretty sure I will be in my car and I can only stay the one night.
During the days, all those who can, should be off exploring the area. Lots of great rides to suit day or half day trips................ I am so bloody jealous! My "formative" motorcycling years were spent riding through much of this area (and a good chunk of the rest of Victoria too).
Ahhhh!, those were the days....of course there would be a lot more traffic now, and many, many more (and much, much less tolerant) police officers. My own policy now is to stay within the rules, where possible (there has to bes a hidden disclaimer in that statement). I want to retain the ability to ride for as long as I can. I see it as a privilege, one not extended to many. The right to use a potentially lethal, fire breathing, projectile like machine, as personalized transport on public roads. Surely that has to be a privilege. And despite earlier suggestions to the contrary, I am not indestructible. This may still come as a surprise to some.
If somebody invented the first motorcycle tomorrow, it would only live to see the light of day in fringe and underground clubs (and YouTube, probably). There would be so many restrictions imposed that "ordinary" folk like us wouldn't get a look in.
Through the retrospectroscope, there are some parts of my youth I would not want to relive, for I may not survive a second time. Of course, there was never certainty the first time. Just a hope. Hang on and hope - might have been sage advice to my pillions on occasion.
What has changed? What was once youthful exuberance, is now front page news.
Ahhhh! those were the days.
