Title: Tools List
Post by: rjstorrie on January 08, 2013, 07:14:14 PM
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone had a complete list of tools required to service a ST1300? I downloaded the manual and printed it, (I have only gone through a few pages).

Also if the bolts require replacing (rounded holes or rusty) where can you get these at reasonable prices?

Thanks,
Rob.

You should be able to do most of the maintenance with standard socket set, allan keys and screw drivers. Large hammer, angle grinder and oxy torch for the difficult stuff.  The swing arm needs a special tool I blieve.

It also pays Rob, to go down to Honda and get some extra fasteners that you see on the cowls, as time and kms ravage these.

You should read the oils thread as the filter can be a right *^#@&!!!! to get off, and it offers sound advice on various tools/methods that work well. Not to mention cheaper oil/filter alternatives.

Also - pre-order some alluminium 'right angle' air filler valves for the wheels so that next time you get tyres, these can be fitted. Saves you plenty of cussing when you check the tyre air pressures EVERY TIME YOU GO OUT.         :well

Warning - DO NOT try to bleed the brake fluid system unless you are very confident and aspiring. It is basically easier to conquer the free world than do this! (look it up if you want - but make sure you read the many threads available on how the manual is wrong first!)        :-(((

Get a good oil funnel.      :thumbsup

The rest of the servicing is a piece of cake - including brake pad change - either way - plenty of grey matter on here eager to help if you post one of those... "OH CRAP! HELP REQUIRED URGENTLY!" posts.       :grin

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Diesel

If you go to ebay you can buy the equivalent bolts to those used on the plastic fairly cheaply. I bought a packet of 20 5x16 allen head button cap bolts for $9 from a seller called Just Screws in Sydney. I'm sure you could buy the same in philips head to match the original bolts.
I bought a small strap type oil filter tool from Supercheap, it's quite easy to use in the space around the filter.
