As the wired controller is designed to be placed in a position where it can be utilised while riding I would be amazed if it isn't waterproof.

Plus the microphone is useless if you can't place it somehwere where is can pick up audio.  I might look at digging mine out, but not sure if I left enough room to get one more cable out.  Shall have a look tomorrow.  I turned the g-sensor off because I don't require it and the language settings to Japanese.  Looked at a bit of footage this morning.  It felt weird not having sound as the gopro always did.  Two commutes to Lonsdale today and tomorrow plus a christmas lunch in Old Noarlunga so I should amass enough footage to make a good observation next week.  I do like having a date/timestamp on the video.

Yesterday I finally got around to moving this to the front of the bike (before I started drinking to those who followed my ramblings on facebook).  I initally put it on the handle bars but the wind distortion was quite great so then moved it to the speedo area, took it for a test ride to Blewitt Springs this morning and it is perfect.  G sensor is turned off but two files were moved to an SOS folder.  I think they were when I spoke into the mic at close range, but will monitor so see if I can work out exactly why.

Hi all,
This is perhaps pure coincidence, I wired it up per Shiney's instructions. Havent gone anywhere since and now am greeted by a flat battery.

thoughts?

G'day mate,
Did you replace the headlight fuse with the "Double Mini Blade Fuse Socket Wire Tap"?

Assuming you did, it should only power up when the headlights come on.
You could connect a multimeter to the wire tap and see if there is any power coming through when the bike is turned off.

Cheers

This was my fear.  I've noticed that occasionally the camera doesn't turn itself off when I shut down the bike,  Fortunately though, it's doesn't take power from the bike, but running on it's own battery, which I have discovered has an incredible running time.

wired up exactly as per Shineys instructions using the dual fuse thingy. The suggestion that the camera doesn't turn off sometimes would be a explanation though buggered if I can work out why it would keep going without power.

I had a thought today that this camera set up could be used at the front of the car with one camera facing left and one facing right.

Two problems solved, combined with forward and rear facing, it would give pretty much 360° view in the car off an accident.

The second use is as an easy way to see if the road is clear before pulling out of intersections or a shopping centre car parking space.

Installed my dv188 last night :-)  took around 2 hours and most of that was routing wires from the front and loosening bodywork.
Bench tested it before installing, while battery was charging 0.75a@12v, dropping to 0.2a@12v after that, not to bad :-)
Future project (well not really project as it is quite simple to do) might be relay with timer so it runs for an hour or so after parking... should cover the bike while it is parked in shopping centers and the like.

I have since unplugged the red cable and use the usb one with a powerbank.  So it runs until I  stop it.

I have installed my dv188, but both cameras keep coming unstuck so I'll remove the white double-sided tape and try the red 3M tape supplied in the box and if that fails they'll be screwed.
I have the rear view camera as the main screen display so I can see how the coffin travels behind me.
A report will be made when I have footage..

A small dab of silicon on the base will hold them, just use blue painters tape to hold while it goes off. They will stick for ever then  :)

My stuff stopper on the front guard was fixed with silicon only, its been there for more than 5 years and no sign of leaving.

Silicon sticks better that brown messy stuff on a blanket.

I haven't had that brown stuff stick my blankets, I always try to at least attempt to make it to the bathroom, even if I don't always make it.. That was why I purchased my own carpet shamPOO'er.  :fp
I think I'll silicon the front camera now to ensure its sticks like s hit to a shovel..  o:)

lQQks like a good bit of kit Shiney,  might have to save some pennies and acquire myself a unit..

Me too.  Is both front and rear in 1080p?  Have you got a rough idea of home much a 64GB sd card would hold before it fills up.  I'd be keen on getting something like this on the kwaka for general commuting (ie. setting it on loop and only looking at if if something happened).  Do you leave the unit under your seat?
Guys, Shiney installed it on Blue BeaST I sadly only had 32g card But after riding from Chermside to Ipswich to Esk, Woodford, Caboolture and back to Chermside still had space on the 32g so i suppose 64g double the distance

Happy with mine as well, but has shown that I need to do some work on he forks...  front footage is a bit bouncy and footage has quite of bit of jello effect, rear is rock solid though

I just had my DV188 installed by Dale Maclean (not savvy enough to do it myself), and have been super impressed by the clarity of the playback video on the computer.
My one stumbling block was finding a suitable media player to view it through. I have an Apple Mac (wouldn't have a bar of the format), so I tried it on my daughter's PC. It still wouldn't play using Windows Media Player so we had to download a VLC media player .
Works well now

I purchased yet another dv188 and it was the first Farkle on BEEstY. The cameras are stuck on with black silicone and all the wiring and control unit fit nicely under the seat, until I put the solo pod on, now its all in its own waterproof compartment with easy access to remove the 64g memory card each evening to download to a 1 terabyte drive
I have dual dashcams on 2 of my rides now.. and I'm very happy with the quality. I'm chaperoning my nephew on his bike L's at the moment and its good to be able to show him footage and explain things with vision.  :thumb

Video Redo is the easiest program I know to edit videos.  Everything is pretty straight forward and it's one of the few I know that gets you a full resolution screenshot if you want a photo.
