Being a newbie and only posting a few times so far, but some of you may have noticed that I've posted a few pics of bridges. I like bridges, >:() so here's a re-cap.
On the Mount Lindesay Road, at Koreelah Creek (between Legume and Woodenbong):
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Ulysses%20AGM%202013/MtLindsayHighwaybridgeoverKoreelahCreek_zps10854196.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Ulysses%20AGM%202013/MtLindsayHighwaybridgeoverKoreelahCreek_zps10854196.jpg.html)
On the Old Glen Innes - Grafton Road at Orara River:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Ulysses%20AGM%202013/ArmidaleRoadNymboida_zps92708154.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Ulysses%20AGM%202013/ArmidaleRoadNymboida_zps92708154.jpg.html)
And some more.
Where's this one?
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Tassie%20Tour%20Easter%202010/PICT0149.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Tassie%20Tour%20Easter%202010/PICT0149.jpg.html)

I even have a favourite bridge. But I won't show you that, until you show me yours.
Do we have any other members with a bridge fetish, who can post some pics of their favourite bridge? >:()
-
This is one of my favourites:
(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/Pixtor/ST13atGatewayArterialBridge_em_zpse6479023.jpg) (http://s38.photobucket.com/user/Pixtor/media/ST13atGatewayArterialBridge_em_zpse6479023.jpg.html)
I think they're even better with an ST in front of them!

Where's that?
I think they're even better with an ST in front of them!
I can't disagree with that, but I have not got any pics of my ST in front a bridge. With only 300km so far, I don't I've even ridden over a bridge yet!
-

Goodness me, Williamson. What are you doing on the Forum? The weather is ideal for going looking for bridges! Here in "Beautiful One Day, Perfect The Next" Queensland it is, anyway. I'm off now- s'later...

Well it was a toss-up between buying a new bike, AKA the ST1300 or retiring. It went something like this:
- Toss coin in air
- If coin lands 'heads-up' - buy ST13
- If coin land 'tails-up' - buy ST13
- If coins lands on side - don't buy ST13
:runyay
I 'spose you can work-out the result. Only problem is I'm working to pay for the ST13, thus sitting in the office all day, looking out of the window, planning a Sunday ride.
PS. Where's your bridge?
-
30/3/2010 one somewhere on the Bellarine Penninsula?
Biggles photo? Hint. Crosses a river near Brisbane.
-
30/3/2010 one somewhere on the Bellarine Penninsula?
Nope! Around 310 - 320km south and across some water from there.
Biggles photo? Hint. Crosses a river near Brisbane.
Mmmm? Might have to think about that one.
-
C'mon you Taswegians. Identify the bridge. There's a prize on offer. :Chocies

Last ones easy Richmond in tassie.Let it be known i came up with the answer before reading this last post ,so what did i win?

Note- ST in photo :grin

Errrr! I don't think so ......
If it's directly south it would be near Strahan. But it looks convict-built, which means it would be east of there.
-
Biggles photo? Hint. Crosses a river near Brisbane.
Under Gateway Bridge, south side, near Dive World?
-
Good man. Collect your chockies at the front.
-

The modern concrete and steel bridge is north of Strahan.
The stone bridge is north of Richmond.

Some bridges are fantastic. I too have a bit of a bridge fetish, I must admit. I am particularly gob-smacked by bridges that curve and rise/fall at the same time. There are a few around the Gold Coast, one of note on the Nerang Canungra road.
I like to get underneath them because the visual "rhythm" of the supports also get me a bit excited.
Here are a couple from my collection for your delectation:

Here's two rail bridges which are located about 80 kms South of Karratha.

The same after some rainfall a few weeks later. The tracks on the lower bridge were washed out and the newly built road crossing all but destroyed.

One of the must do trips.

That'd be on Cape York, I guess.
Looks like it failed the test a couple of times.

I'll probably have another birthday before you pick this one (and I ain't got that many left) ......

Got lost back there somewhere between the Sydney Harbour Bridge, somewhere near Mundubbera and some washed away bridges....... Can someone can get us back on track with some localities?

To resolve the bridge question, here's my next clue: Burnett River.

Bridges is the thread topic. So (IMHO), it wasn't too far of topic.
I suppose this raises a few questions, ie:
Who is allowed to hijack a thread?
When is hijacking acceptable?
Are these questions another hijack?

Never or sometimes.

Most definitely!

Victoria, but not on the River Murray. It's on a popular bike run, but photographed from an unusual angle.

Looks like they had to add some scaffolding to reinforce it.
Let us know if it turns up.

Another bridge, similar style, construction and reinforcing as the Taradale bridge:

I was looking around Brisbane (because that's what is says in your profile), but if it's "near home" where's "home" now? (Locality only required.)

Some places always remain "home" even when your living elsewhere. Spent 15 years in Katherine (some of the best of my life).

The Sale Swing Bridge, located on the South Gippsland Highway 5 km from the city of Sale, Victoria, Australia, spans the Latrobe River at its junction with the Thomson River. (From Wikipedia).
Glen, I know u would have done this after the AGM last year but I don't recall your saying u went 2 Tassie as well. Was Theresa with u on this leg of the trip? Would love to do Tassie with my Mother Terese. I think you might have started me on a quest (so I can b a FartRider like JohnnyWYTED).
:Stirpot :nahnah
-
Gregory,
The Tassie photo was taken during a car trip around tassie.
I saw the swing bridge a day or two before I arrived at your place. It used to be opened by hand now they use a pnuematic motor and air compressor.
My first ride around Tassie was in January a long time ago, I think 1971, the second was when I picked up the Goldwing from Launcestion.
A great place for bikes if you can dodge the weather.

Yep! That's Spikey Bridge on the Tasman Highway around 7.5 km south of Swansea. Here's another pic, this is one my mate Phil took of his GSX1400 outfit. Some you guys and gals met Phil at the Blackwood VIC RTE and at the Metung VIC RTE last year. Phil's an ST rider too - a Triumph Sprint ST - that almost counts.

At Mullaley - Coolah Road crossing of Saltwater Creek, around 7.5km south of Tambar Springs. At this location, Google Streetview shows what is likely the broken-down bridge below.
Thanks to Google Maps and Streetview......
:clap
-
Good Googling. Make a plan to stop and check it out when your in this neck of the woods. There cant be that many bridges with trees growing out of them. A nice piece of Ausi bush always leaves me with that peaceful feeling .

Yep, that's the place found.

speaking of bridges. This one has had better days.
It was probably not suitable for an ST any way.

Not sure if it's fit for anything but renovation or demolition.

Nope!!!

The second one reminds me of one in northern England, but I can't recall where. The timber structure over the arch is quite distinctive.

May be similar, but neither are in TAS or UK.
Here's a hint, Skippers Canyon (try without Googling):

Correct. Bridges are close by (well relatively if you are reading this in Oz).

Didn't know that one until a little search in Google. This the Dickabram Bridge over the Mary River, near Maryborough QLD.
And now, to keep this thread running, this may stretch some brains, some patience, but hopefully not friendships.

The bridge is far away ......
The locals know the road as the PCH.

That Pacific Coast Highway bridge in California is the Bixby Bridge.
I thought it had been closed, but that's the Pfeiffer bridge:

Yes, the Bixby Creek Bridge on the Pacific Highway, around 30km south of Monterey, CA. We headed down the PCH from Monterey, but could get through, the road was, probably still is, due to a massive landslide.
...... I thought it had been closed, but that's the Pfeiffer bridge ......
Your link, and a quick Google, tells me that the PCH is closed in a number of locations.
The PCH has been compared to the Great Ocean Road (GOR). IMHO the GOR is great, but the PCH is greater:

Bit that's just my opinion.

I agree on several counts:
PCH has a lot more ocean views.
PCH has big sweepers rather than tight bends.
There are therefore more overtaking opportunities.
The PCH is in generally more "open" country, rather than hemmed in by trees or hillsides.
As I recall, the speed limit is more realistic, but that's America for you, rather than Victoristan.
-
An easy one:
-
ok.. it was a part of the Pacific Hwy, but now bypassed with an adjacent structure, bigger and wider - so alas, no STeed in the pix... it crosses a canal/channel coming off the Clarence River... I'm guessing somewhere between Maclean and Ulmarra (didn't ride that way on the Lawrence Tavern RTE)... :popcorn
-
- so alas, no STeed in the pix...
Yes, I'd been wondering about the "steed in the pic" aspect. I looked back through a couple of pages and they have been missing for quite a while.
Well done John. It is indeed the Shark Creek bridge between Ulmarra and Maclean. Now disused and inaccessible to vehicles. It's so solid it doesn't need any care to preserve it, unlike the old timber bridges.
A look at the pic on Google Maps if you just type in "Shark Creek, NSW" returns a garishly coloured-in version.

Mmmm ..... no requirement for an ST in the pic. Second post in the thread suggested ......
I think they're even better with an ST in front of them!
........ which I agree, but still not required.
-
Hmmm... :think1 .... need a pix of a bridge... back in a jiffy... :13Candy

Any sort of bridge that has attracted your fancy, and that you want to share with others. If you scroll back to post #26, you'll see my favourite bridge.

Last one was an easy guess, what about this one?
-
Dont know where the bridge is, but it must have taken ages to erect and remove the scaffolding..
-
Another easy one- it's over the Colorado River at the Hoover Dam, USA.

The "scaffold" are the towers for HV transmission wires.

Alas, another one without a bike. I was on the bike, but had to walk a short distance to get the shot.
