Help Needed
« on: April 24, 2012, 08:43:18 AM »
Ok here is a question for all you mechanically minded people.
i bought my 2004 st13 in October 2010, I have done just under 4000 k's in that time (damn Work), the rear tyre was new when I purchased the bike (Bridgstone I think) any way most of my riding is done two up, so the suspension is wound up fairly tight.
My question is this, the centre third of my rear tyre is fine however the outer two thirds are stuffed, very badly worn and scollaped.

can anyone suggest a reason for this. 4000 k's does not seem like a lot from a modern tyre. :rd13 :think1

That is an incorrect air pressure problem. This damage could have been done by the previous owner, as once a tyre starts to wear one way it damn near impossible to stop it wearing that way.
The tyre pressure should be around 40 to 44 psi so when you get your new tyres make sure you check pressures regularly.

What tyre pressures are you running Sac? Reccomended is 42 PSI. They will wear quickly on the edge with the weight of a pillion if the pressures are low

+ 1 the above.  I can depend on the tyre as well. If it is a Bridgestone BT021 or 023 they did not have a great reputation for life.  My rear on the ST11 suffers very worn side tread as well, but that is my fault (too much lean, corner speed and throttle) as I try to make sure I get all the side worn out as well as the centre.

I have put the Newer Bridgestones on my ST1100 and they are wearing very well, have put 8000km on them so far, so  :thumb from me, not sure on the ST1300 version.

the link below if you put in your bike model and year it will tell you what suits your bike, this is where I buy my tyres from, great value.

Thanks for that guys, the last time I checked my pressure it was 42psi but that was a while ago, I need to get some 90 degree valves to make it easier, a friend at work said that the suspension could be set to hard would tghis also contribute to the problem I am having?
