2022-12-11 Ashbourne Ride To Eat
« on: December 12, 2022, 03:53:10 AM »
After six months in the wilderness it was time to dig out the Ozstoc jacket and go for a ride.  I haven't done much riding bar commuting in that time.  Recently I bought a Forcite helmet which has an in-built camera because you know, I need more cameras.

First stop was to look at this monument in Flagstaff Hill.  I've seen signs for it many times but this was the first time I pulled in to have a look.

This rusty truck was on a side road from Bull Creek.

That road then turned to dirt a few meters later on the other side of a crest and not wanting to u-turn on such an incline rode it through to Strathalbyn.  This is the view from the Forcite helmet.

During a comfort stop at Strath' the rain began to fall so the rain gear came out.

This monument is a tribute to a rider who had ridden on.  It was my first stop here since coming here on a Sym Firenze in 2014.

No road trip in South Australia is complete without seeing ruins of some sort.

I arrived at the Greenhill Inn super early and put the drone up when the rain stopped (it's illegal to fly in the rain).  The cockatoos went mental.  It seems like hundreds of them flew in circles around it and squawking like mad so I took a couple of photos and brought it back down again.  I didn't take any videos.

I then went for a walk around the church before rain came down again and vegetated under the canopy of the day's lunch venue before making my way back to the bike.  Stinky Pete was the next to arrive.

After lunch the ride home was pretty straight with no stops.

Looks like you had a good ride, even if it was a bit wet.

The view from the helmet cam looks good, and it does away with the need for a sperate dash cam. How is the helmet itself?

The helmet is quite comfortable.  It has an interior visor which I had in Japan and is quite handy.  There's bluetooth for speakers but I have never used it.  The bike's dashcam was running too but with this one in the helmet I can speak into it when I want make notes of side roads etc.

Great to see that you are back , great ride report , love the look of the helmet I would hate to think which arm and leg you had to give up for it, you know that old saying ‘he must have had to give up an arm and leg to pay for that’.

I do know the saying.  It was a tad more than I'd normally pay for a helmet and will probably only get used on such road trips.  I've never used it on the daily commute.
