Will the computer from a 2014 work in a 2005?

(1/1)

JNAC:
As above.

I have a 2005 ST1300 and have been living with the FI light for a year now, doesn't bother me too much, even found the limp home mode makes it crackle more going down hills.

Anyway, I've been offered a written off 2014 ST1300. Would it be a case of swap the computer and key barrel then ride into the sunset or would I have to go as far as swapping engines, looms and all the other good stuff that goes along with it?

Thanks for any insight you may be able to provide. :)

StinkyPete:
Have you tried cleaning the "5 Way"  and resetting the ECU to try to clear the F1 light issue?

JNAC:
Thanks mate,

I have a while ago, 5 way had 3 passages clogged and reset the ecu. Issue got harder to replicate and I can hold it past 4000rpm for a little while without issue. If the bike gets warm, for example I ride to the gold coast, about 3/4 of the way down it will decide if I go over 4000rpm for a few seconds it will come on.

I've also got some dead LED segments in my dash so I wouldn't be against replacing that.

alans1100:
The keys are encoded to the ECU which in theory you would replace if you lost all your keys and the mysterious key number that never seems to go with the bike when it's moved on.

I think you would only need to replace the ECU (if that is where the issue is) and get the keys encoded to suit.

It's really something that needs input from a dealer before going ahead

cravenhaven:
There's 2 parts to the key. The physical blade with its machining's, and the chip within. You can extract the chip from the wrecked bike's key and place it into your original key so then you dont have to replace the physical locks on your bike.
There's probably some risk to downgrading the computer to an old bike, but I'm sure there's nothing that cant be overcome with a little persistence.
Do you get the complete wreck, or just the computer and key?.

I've actually got an ECU and ABS computer from a 2005, but no key. I thought I had a solution to my own 2002/3 ST1300 that has the FI problem, but the 2002 style ECU's have different connectors and I dont have ABS.
I found out that there is a guy in Melbourne who can program a key chip if you send him the ECU for just $500.
