Us Sydneysiders didn't have far to go home, but we made it a bit longer with both myself and Dick B and our pillions escorting Ian (Beatup) and his wife Helen, to the Greygum Cafe on the Putty road, after what I would describe as my best weekend in very long time, and as someone else said, a terrific alternative to a Ulysses AGM. I know it was only a couple of days but we packed that much in to that time, it seemed like a week :)
It was great to finally add faces to names from the forum and I
know I've made some wonderful new friends in the process.
Thanks have to go to Diesel (Dave) and Streak (Graham) for bringing it all to fruition.
As for the Saturday ride, what a terrific sight it was - in my mirrors at least - to see so many ST's coming down the hills behind me, and apart from one small chook chasing episode
, a great RTE
.
I tried a few other places on a weekend recce late last year, and found this route to be the best as it included some great scenery, plenty of long straights, some fantastic twisties
(as some wag said as we came over Scenic Hill out of Lithgow "Can we do that again!"), just long enough to keep us interested and short enough to not seem like an endurance ride.
Just after leaving the Tarana pub, I tried to look to the horizon to see what weather was in front of us, and took my mind off the job of staying on the black stuff for a split second and found myself trying to making a new road
I really thought "This is it!"
, but kept my head enough to
not touch the front brake, slow down quickly enough to regain control and ride out of trouble, but the adrenalin kept pumping for a helluva long time after that, let me tell ya
As for all the variations of models and their owners' farkles, my wishlist is ever so long now, it should keep me going for years - thanks guys and gals
