Well thanks to Wombattle I have a loan of his Honda Police over mirror light brkts......they are with my guy (former Blacksmith & Trumpy rider) now for a play.

Things we are considering

- Plates knocked out with his plasma cutter and then bent to suit left & right side.

- Hole in the top upright section of the mount to allow lights wiring to be inside the upright and out of view.

- Plates with or without the bottom spacer to allow for those already using MCL under mirror mounts.

- Considering supplying them either complete OR without the upright welded to the plate so then you have the option of getting the angle of upright to plate correct for your style of light so that a larger and perhaps lighter light

could be used and still clear the screen. Then just have the welding completed at your local fabrication shop.

- Brackets will be supplied undercoated only so you can paint as you wish.

- Cutting out the existing rubber mirror insert with be your responsibility but we may do a cheat sheet and may provide the 4 bolts in stainless steel.

Don't worry about orders etc, I still need to have built, tested and priced out......this is just a for your info if your considering this as a future farkle.

Sounds like it could be better than the OEMs. The hole in the tube for the wires is a good idea.

That sounds like a great project, with the potential to assist members looking for some decent light mounts. Like Biggles, I'm a fan of concealed wiring, simply for the sake of neatness.

With my 1100 lights, I used white heatshrink tubing on the wiring, so it hides on the white bike.

Love the idea, possible to do some to suit the ST1100??? Also like the idea of the hidden wiring, but it seems that most of the better quality LED's come with plugs attached already, so that may make it harder to fit the wiring. Just a thought.

The ST1100 is quiet possible to replicate but I don't have the 110 mounts as a template......they are different to the 1300.

The plug on the light is no issue as you have the option off a cut and shut addition to the wiring from the light and have the plug back with the mounting bolts for the light mount. To remove the light for any reason just plug and bolts.

The only plug that can present a problem for the inexperienced is the plug between the ballast and the light on HID lighting.

Project hit a little snag with the first attempt by a fabrication workshop to use their plasma cutter to make the plates achieving a very average outcome......our plan "B" guy has produced a far superior effort, so the first pair for testing should be on the bike with LED lights in the near future for testing re easy of mounting, vibration etc.....

Well here is where the little project is up to......fine tuning was quite finicky, don't know if it has any future to be honest....

These have just a little wider offset to account for the Bike-Quip screen, and plate is thicker along with the wall thickness of the upright compared to the Original version, you may note the bottom mounts different to the honda version to allow for the MCL under mirror mounts.

Anyway a de-bur and coat of paint just for now to evaluate with the lights on and make any adjustments needed, then powder coat black

I always have to admire good welding.
Designing them to pair with the MCL under-mirror mounts is very clever.

Bit of prepsol, scratch em up and spray a couple of coats of satin black.......couple o' days...bewdiful!!!

The elongated hole on the bottom mount allows a little movement of the bracket so the top moves closer to or further away from screen to allow for wider/narrower screen and varios light options.....but like all prototypes we have found a few minor things we would change already......

And yeah the boy can weld, did his apprenticeship as a boilermaker then blacksmith on the railways

The over mirror brackets are complete....just rubbed back wiped with thinners sprayed them with a Matt black kill rust paint. The plan is to powder coat if they tick the boxes, vibration was the biggest concern, but was not an issue at all

Mounted the 3846 lumen spread beams to the brackets......to keep the amperage within the safe zone I have a sneaky switch to drop one or both high beams out of the lighting equation. With 2x 55WHID's, 2x 34W LED's and 2x 10W LED when on hi beam the 2x 65w H4 Halogens served no lighting purpose

Now for another little lighting mod

as I have a couple of longer rides in the planning stage later this year

Count me in.. even more so if they are available before the Rally.. I'm considering a serious lighting upgrade for the night part of the trip to the national rally :)

Me_3 can safely say they won't be a go before NatRally sorry, so don't hold out for them

The Honda version of Over Mirrors or the MCL under mirrors may be a quicker option....

Plan now is to replicate a pair using these as a template and see if they bolt straight up without any fine tuning require......and that will be the catch for production

Good to see your progress Chris.
They certainly look the goods and your putting some thought into them well done.

I expect your planning to use those two as the base to build your forming jigs on for the production test units?

Not sure how you have been tracking possible cost per set now but once your jigs are done and dusted it would be worth your while to start the clock ticking on a set from scratch with all the product at hand into those new jigs and time the process to best calculate you fabrication cost less coating and parts.

Most of the time we think we have a handle on the time it takes to weld a set of whatever up only to find its in fact less time and screwing with your cost per item to the extent of maybe missing sales because the price may be a tad too hi for no reason.

Those perceived expenses might better be put into larger bulk product purchases for your production line or the addition of fasteners for example into your kit for sale.

Well done on the project...they look worthy of the job intended.
