Title: SA RTE Ideas for 2021
Post by: StinkyPete on October 01, 2020, 07:54:13 AM
It time to start thinking about a program for 2021, so please post any ideas that you have, and Shillas and I will put together a program for 2021.

Have tried the hotels at Coobowie and Edithburgh.

The Edithburgh Hotel would be my pick in that part of Yorke Peninsula.

I almost wrote Edithburgh but decided it was too close to Coobowie.  I saw some good reviews of Coobowie on the gram a couple of weeks ago so thought I'd suggest it, but I'd be happy with either of those.

Just a start off from me:

Victoria Hotel in Port MacDonnell - overnight & possible (COVID-19 willing) Interstater - late in the year?
Either Pinnaroo Hotel of Golden Grain Hotel in Pinnaroo
Tumby Bay - Overnight

Now that the Wallaroo/Lucky Bay ferry is back in SA (Adelaide for some refitting) and hopefully soon to be plying the waters between Yorke and Eyre Peninsula - I’m hopeful an overnight RTE to Elliston could be on the cards. If not an RTE I’m happy to plan a trip and throw it open to anyone who is interested.

And speaking of Golden Grain, there is the Wunkar Golden Grain Tavern at Wunkar - very worthy of our support.

2021 NatRally is 12-14th March, so we will pencil that in as well.
There are some good suggestions coming in, and places we haven't visited before.
I like the idea of a trip to Elliston, as its my stomping ground.
Somewhere close to Adelaide might get some interest from some of our members who we don't see very often.
The Pretoria at Mannum is a nice ride an always worth a visit.

I've often wondered if the hotel in Wunkar was open.

:bl11. I'm wondering if the Tailem bend Motorsport park could be an option for lunch as it has a cafe-restaurant  and possibly afternoon tea at the Greenman (Ashbourne ) on the way home ..a nice trip through the hills for those going back to Adelaide !

I wanted to do the Greenman for a while now but didn't make it last year as I was overseas (as was Langers).  To be honest, I never even gave the motorsrport park at Elwomple a thought.

Stinky Pete did mentions somewhere close to Adelaide so I have been thinking about somewhere like that, but all the ones I thought of we had done before or have pencilled in this year.

Title: Re: SA RTE Ideas for 2021

Well we can schedule one every month and see how we go. I sometimes think the timing of around 6 weeks makes it too long if you miss one.

But, in my opinion, we'll need to mix it up a bit between Saturday and Sunday, some may be 3 weeks between, others 5 weeks to try and cater for schedules.

Also, how many overnight RTEs are you interested in? There are currently 4 listed (Tumby Bay inc.), but some other suggestions could be overnight depending on rider's choice.

We can add Kulgera into the mix, but will probably need WendyL and NTRebel to set the date to give them the best chance of getting there.   All these interstate rides are dependant upon whatever Covid restrictions might be in place at the time.

Just checked public holidays for 21 and NT and QLD both have long weekend 1/2/3 of May which would get us out of the Christmas and Easter mayhem and allow Queenslanders to attend if they want.

For those into their schnitzels, this might be a way to work out riding destinations. The Advertiser is running Apollo on the best schnitzels in SA.

We've done the Sevenhill Hotel, 19 to go!

Kulgera on the May Long Weekend?

Following Shillas's suggestion, do we have support for making some of the rides on a Sunday?  I reckon it's a good idea, but I can't get to them.
We'll see if we can shedule a ride once a month.
Title: Re: SA RTE Ideas for 2021

A few Sunday rides wouldn't hurt, perhaps some people can't make Saturday rides due to sport, grandparent duties and the like and a Sunday run would give them an opportunity to join in. Now retired, I'm not too fussed either way.

STinky Pete and myself have gone through the list of suggestions for RTE locations for 2021 and we've tried to avoid school holiday dates, except where no choice (like January).

Us South Aussies are ahead of NSW & Vic in the RTE planning, but seems to be a move for a Silverton RTE in NSW, which could become a tri-state RTE.

Our Naracoorte RTE is a potential SA / Vic RTE.

If the Welshmen and Mexicans can pull their fingers out, we may be able to get a more coordinated calendar together.

All subject to COVID-19.

This is the draft calendar we've come up with and has a mix of Saturdays and Sundays. All subject to feedback:

January      Greenman Inn, Ashbourne – Sunday 10th
February     Pretoria Hotel, Mannum – Saturday 20th
March         NatRally at Mudgee
Tumby Bay (Overnight) for SA's Not the NatRally Venue to be confirmed – Saturday 13th
April           Tailem Bend Motorsport Park Café – Saturday 3rd. However, if there is a motosport event being held that weekend, swap the June RTE with Lyndoch?
May            Kulgera, NT – Sunday 2nd
Elliston (Overnight) Venue to be confirned – Saturday 8th (Two for the price of one if doing Kulgera and wanting to make it a holiday?)
June           Monkey Nut Cafe, Lyndoch – Sunday 20th - Or April 3 if event at The Bend - Or Tri-State Silverton? I see JD & Chippy are already planning to head there.
July            Edithburgh Hotel (Overnight)  - Saturday 24th
August        Swan Reach Hotel  - Sunday 15th
September  Quorn (Overnight) Venue to be confirmed – Saturday 11th
October       Billy Mac's Naracoorte – Possible Vic/SA o/night? – Saturday 16th
November   Golden Grain Tavern Wunkar – Sunday 21st
December   Robin Hood Hotel Strathalbyn (across the road from the Kenny Blake Motorcycle Memorial Statue) – Saturday 11th

Cheers

Just a couple of thoughts for possible fine tuning of the calendar.

Saturday April 3 is Easter Saturday, I suspect most SA riders will be off doing family things.

Sunday November 21, Wunkar Golden Grain Tavern - it might be better to swap to somewhere mid-year - perhaps less risky for stinking hot weather (but the weather is the luck of the draw on the day and probably not worth fiddling with).

My bad regards Easter. Had it as the next weekend.

From what I know and have observed of SA, ie. being behind the eastern states, Easter is probably is a week later.  Others may say a week, plus 10 years, but that could be regarded as cruel, and I'm not cruel.

... we did our six day lockdown in three.

Some would say typical of SA, just doing half a job.

... How many days did you do?

We did a full quota, and then some.  Only the namby pamby whinged; real men, ST riders didn't complain, took it all in our stride.

Do we have any plans for june as yet, given that a few of us are hesitant to go interstate at this stage?  Silverton does sound attractive, quite easily doable and Broken Hill is more or less a South Australian exclave  :Stirpot but I'd still be interested if anything is planned for within our borders.
