I have been speaking to the Organisers of the "Battle on the Border" cycling event (push bikes). They are pretty keen to to utilise our services especially if we are able to come up with the numbers.

This is for a three day event Friday, Saturday, Sunday on and around the Tweed Hinterland, Northern NSW. Dates:- 29th, 30th and 31st of May They need 10 to 12 Bikes to work along side NSW Police in escorting the cycle riders through a series of closed roads. Duties will involve blocking intersecting roads and watching for vehicles that may intrude onto the course and assisting riders if required.

Hours are long 06:00 - 17:00 and for that you will receive overnight accommodation, running costs for the bike and "A Generous Donation" to the OzSToc Management Committee.

Give it a go guys, it is long tiring work but fun.

Looks like OzSTOC is going the next step. The OzSTOC MAMIL MINDERS  (Mitch coined the term not me)

And think of the extra farkling ideas, from simple Hazard flasher system (Very easy to install) to LED Strobe systems, all justifiable..

Chris just checked his roster and he is on duty all of those days, we would have liked to have done this as we cycle also and haven't had the chance to do somthing like this  :-[

Sorry to raise your hopes- I asked the question without considering the dates.  I'm committed those 3 days already, however I'm keen to volunteer any time I can do it.

As mentioned previously- I've done it for road racers and twice for the annual Ride To Conquer Cancer, so I know the drill both generally and for competitions.

I had a fantastic time (except for the ride home which I'll explain) a big thank you to my riding mates for the weekend, Totgas, Tipsy, IanB and youngster, great company, great conversation and heaps of fun.

A big thank you to Totgas (Adrian) for your coordination and representation for our group as the organisers kept throwing a few curly's at us.

Now, for the trip home.

As I hve a son living in Coomera my plan was to pop in for a visit on my way home. So I thought I fill up at the BP just off the off ramp. As I was entering the servo which is a single lane, a young idiot in a little blue car passed me from behind at a great rate of speed missing me by millimetres.  He then pulled up at the bowser at a screech of brakes hopped at laughing etc.

I pulled up in the same lane (only vacant pump) but at the back pump, took off my helmet and refuelled the bike. I then went up to pay and as I passed him I spoke to him and said "mate take it a little easier you almost knocked me back there" he then rushed up to me grabbed me by the front of the jacket and pushed me back yelling at me who did I think I was, calling "C" and so forth spitting in my face. He then threw me to the ground where I landed on the concrete on my back as he did this he yelled you don't know who your dealing with old man. I threw a few back about how tough he was picking on a man twice his age.

When I went in to pay his girlfriend was in paying and about half a dozen people had her build up telling her that was uncalled for ... (You reckon?) as I walked back to the bike I noticed he had changed driver with his mate. I got on my bike and headed for my Sons place a few blocks away.

I can't believe how shaken I was when I got to my Sons place, I was shaking, became a bit emotional and took an hour or so to settle down enough to ride home to the Sunshine Coast.

So slightly sore back, a bit of bruising around the catheter in my chest where he grabbed me a was shoving me.

The weekend showed the best of people and the worst.

Yes Biggles and a time stamp on my fuel receipt. I've given it a lot of thought and with everything going on in my life at the moment I don't want the hassle, the distraction from my treatment, and my mind on anything but getting better.

He's a mindless bully and will get his just deserts.
As for "who you're dealing with", he's probably the leader of his street's drug enforcement gang, hence big time in his micro world.

Sorry to read about your little incident Michael I hope the gutless prick gets some bad karma.
Any way I had a damn good time on the weekend as well. getting race down hill and around corners trying to keep up with motorcycle officer,
made it a hell of a good time.etc.
with very good company of friends it really did top it off.

This turned up on Sunday, I never felt him touch my face but as he grabbed me by my jacket lifting me up to throw me he must have hit my lip.

I know it doesn't look much, but it runs down the inside of my lip too. While I'm on Chemo it's going to take a long time to heal.

I'm so sorry to hear all of that I must have been 10 minutes behind you and it was was all done and dusted by then, not hint that anything had occurred.  :well
As Tipsy said, he'll get his in the end... what a pr*ck!

And as to the rest of the weekend, couldn't have been better, great company, food, accommodation and riding. It would also appear that the cockups continued on the Sunday.
If only the rest of the guys and gals knew what they missed out on...  WOW:

The Boys with the Red and Blue were there and did a great job, my hazard lights were on just a moment in time had them off with how the camera must have caught that moment Brock.

Totgas' white 1100 is festooned with lots of flouro yellow stickers and a tail /brake and indicators up a pole.
It was even mistaken as a police bike by the Police.

Everyone seems a bit critical of how your bike should be set up, red and blue lights, yellow lights, when they should,be on when they should be off, what markings should be on your bike and so forth.

Each state has different laws in this regard and that's what we need to abide by, not people's opinion.

To be a Moto Marshal for the cycling races you need to volunteer your time, your bike needs to be roadworthy, you don't need any extra markings or flashing lights, however f you choose to do that who cares so long as it abides by the traffic law of the state your operating in.

Come along and give It a try, it's a lot of fun, your contributing to the community which a lot of money is being spent.

Don't be critical of those who are giving it a go, what lights they run what livery is on their bike it's not important, just get behind them as money raise goes back to our club.

Nobody was being critical that I noticed Sabie, just offering helpful suggestions/ideas. Trying to do escort/marshalling work with out hazard lights of some description could get dangerous.

P.S.  I do Bike event marshalling here in the West, and have just installed front and rear strobes, soon I will get to use them, only 3 weeks to go.

No one in particular Brock, just getting tired of putting up ideas, experiences up etc and someone comes and jumps all over them with the way they do it is bigger or better. There's a lot of mutual respect disappearing from the forum. An example was a member asking what kind of part people use in a particular area, I put up mine and was immediately jumped on by the next post stating they were rubbish etc instead of just saying what they use. I saw a little of that in this thread and that's why I made the statement I did.

You don't have to jump on people and say what they are doing is crap, make your statement and move on. Mutual Respect, what I'm using and what I'm doing works for me etc.

Not sure if you are over 60 yet, however I believe it is a Serious Assault under the Criminal Code to assault a person over 60.  I fully understand your reasoning for not pursuing the matter.
