Ride to and from work, plus a coupla km at lunch, all up about 30km, home with 55% battery (normally ~ 75%, battery is on charger now for tomorrow's AM ride to work, bike (and me) will come home tomorrow in the Ranger.

The benefit of the extra light, outweighs the inconvenience of more frequent charging.

Got a ride in yesterday, the Heathcote to Axedale (and return) section of the O'Keefe Rail Trail yesterday, 56km - https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/okeefe-rail-trail/ - with a mate, Gary, easy peasy.

On the trail.

At Derrinal Pools.

Ditto

At old Derrinal Station site.

Very quite, only a few other riders.

At ....

An old church at Axedale.

Despite Gary's 5.5/10 rating (he's harsh), I think it's quite a good trail, well signed (except for one location), plenty of information plaques - 7/10 from me.

Towing a trailer with the eBike.

I have one of trailers hanging on a hook in the garage.

Thought it might be handy as a cargo trailer and going on an eBike overnighter.  So I hooked it up behind the eBike, loaded it up with around 20kg of gear, and took it for a test ride a couple of Friday's back.

It towed well, easy, but did use a fair bit more battery, 38km saw me home with around 50% battery.  I'm guessing a 75 to 80km will be a leg limit if I'm camping.

Guess you need to add a honda generator, and a spare battery , so you can recharge over night..

No, with a late start, a few stops and a 4:00pm finish, an 80km ride will take me most of the day, and leave plenty of pub time for the battery to recharge.

Can it be assumed that you've tried it with pants off?   It is a regular thing for some things, https://wnbrmelbourne.com.au/previous-rides, but not me.

These girls tried it: https://www.needsomefun.net/september-17-1978-the-video-for-queens-single-bicycle-race-was-filmed-at-wimbledon-stadium-in-england/
 WOW:  :Norty

I have a very funny story about that ....

Back in the late 70's, early 80's (that 1970/1980, not 1870/1880 for you smart alecs out there, not you Mark), one of my colleagues (Phil) was working on a project developing a bicycle path network for the Melbourne bayside suburbs, titled Bayside Bicycle Routes - perhaps you see where this is going.

For presentation to senior management, Chairman of Road Safety & Traffic Authority - RoSTA and below, Phil had prepared some slide (before PowerPoint) of various aspects of the project, these were inserted in a slide carousel (remember those?).  Another colleague had a copy of the Queen album, I took a photo and inserted the slide into the carousel.  At the time when Phil announced, "Here's a pic of the Bayside Bicycle Routes", the room erupted into a deadly silence.

Phil nearly got the sack.  One day I must tell him what I did, but even now, some 40 years later, might be too soon.

Shonee recently purchased this eTrike.

It has:
Headlight & Tail light/break light (comes on automatically when it's dusk/dark
3 speed hub gearbox
Centre drive electrical assist drive (0 to 5 stages of assistance) [this means the motor drives through the gears as well]
Differential on the rear axle
Hydraulic disc brakes (with parking brake locks)
Front suspension
Seat suspension
Zipped cargo bag
Range of up to 70 km.

I followed her on my 6 speed Leitner and couldn't keep up. And I was peddling twice as fast as her.

I followed her on the Spyder, and she was cruising at 27 km/h.

Happy cycling

Up at Burleigh Heads for a coupla week R&R, hired an eBike, just a step-through cruiser for a week, get a coupla hours each morning cruising the beach-front paths and enjoying the view.

Biggest danger is from UV rays and serious case of whip lash when turning to perve, err look at, all of the pretty little things wearing even littler tops and G-string bottoms. I can take care of the UV rays with lashings of 50 plus, hat and other coverings. There may be some protection / prevention to the perving - but I don't want it.

Some other observations:
  *  The eBike has crap range. I found out the hard way, suffice to say that the ride to Palm Beach yesterday was much easier as the ride from. I learned now to not set off without a full charge.
  *  eBikes and effing eScooters are every effing where.
  *  Helmets seem to be optional, even with some kids riding fat tyre motor bike look-a-likes at 50/60km/h on roads, footpaths and bike paths and only other protection would be their board shorts.
  *  Lime eBikes are $1.00 hire fee and $0.57 a km, effing expensive (a 2 hour morning ride will be about $70.00), 'specially compared to ...
  *  Bike Rentals | Beach Bikes – Bike Hire Gold Coast. If you coming here, want some fun, wanting a cheapie, aren't fussy, give James a call, he'll look after you for $180 for a week.

This AM's ride for a coffee, about a third of the way there I thought, it better be effing good and worth the effort.  Overview of ride in first pic.

No lekky assist this AM, all old school, normally aspirated (and I was gasping at times), analogue style.  Some effing hills that you tend to forget when you have the assist, but achievable when you zig zag your way up, check out the Parry Road hill.  Second pic.

And the coffee?  The French Lettuce (re-branded Post Office café) at Hurstbridge does a damn fine coffee.

These rides are an opportunity for a chin wag with riding and walking mates.  It's a bit like an RTE, but colder, it was around 2C when I left home, and with the very heavy frost in the fields and ovals along the Diamond Creek I suspect to temps would've been sub-zero.

Must see if I can fit the heated grips.

Yes, that was an option.  I flipped a coin this morning before the ride; heads --> eBike, tails --> pushbike.

I did say to myself that I'd go back to bed, if the coin landed on it's side

Last Wed I did 38k pushy ride. Very cold but felt ok even in shorts. But. Took the Goldwing for a service today. About 2C just after 9 was very cold especially on the fingers.

Wednesdays forecast for the weekly ride is perhaps too cold and wet. We will see on the day.
