.......... Currently running Pirrelli  Angels - very impressed - first ride was 3 days, (2000k) in pouring rain on the way to last year's GP. Now have 8000k on them and looking good for 12,000k. Distance wore the front tyre into a V with the Bridgestones, haven't got that indication with the Pirelli's yet. I think they will be my choice again next time - confidence in a tyre is half the solution.

 :think1

Has anyone started using the Pirelli Angel GT tyres, yet?
I've still got the original BT020 tyres on the ST13.

In more recent years, I have used Michelin Pilot Road, Metzeler Interact Z6 and Z8 and presently Bridgestone BT023 on my CBR1000F, but none of the rears (170/60 or 180/55) seem to make more than about 8,000km, as a lot of the riding was done towing a Classic Ultralite trailer and/or carrying a pillion. I'm starting to think that there is a direct correlation between the width of the "chicken strips" and the distance between tyre replacements, so it is hard to decipher which tyres will actually last longer for any particular rider.

I guess that I'll just have to keep watching this space, until my ST13 runs out of tread, then roll some dice.

I started out with the stock Exedra bias ply tyres but they stopped making them. I then changed to the Bridgestone BT021, same story they went out of manufacture.
I am now running the stock BT023 on the rear and 130/70 18 Exedra Max on the front,  I know the front is bigger than factory but it seems to work for me. The BT023 on the front wore out to quickly but the BT023 works well on the rear.
I get my tyres shipped from Mick Brace in Queensland and fit them myself. I find the amount of time it takes to get the wheels off and take them to a shop I can do it myself, I do get some marks on the rims from my tyre levers but it is much quicker and cheaper.

I have to say that after changing from the 160/70 17 to the 170/60 17 rear tyre that I have noticed little difference. My bike doesn't sit noticeably more upright on the side-stand, I have little problem getting it on the centre stand and I can barely detect any change in gearing. I should add that there probably wasn't much difference in diameter going from the worn old tyre to the new tyre. The Verge tyre has perfromed very well so far. Nor problems in the wet or dry, and better still (for me) no scuffing and no uneven wear.

I am about to change to my new front PR3 at the end of this month. I put (the PR2) on at 62,000km (documented) and when I rode into my garage today after a beer with Tipsy - I've got 90,485km on the clock - ON THE SAME TYRE!!!!       :eek

It's tired now and needs replacing - but it has had a long and distinguished career. It will retire with honours! I will post a pic of it tomorrow.

Cheers, Diesel

Just checked the odo again for this current PR3 - on at 90,400km - Current: 118,000+   = 27,600km SAME TYRE!!!    (due for replacement in next 2-3,000) - Guess what tyre I'm putting back on!

Cheers, Diesel

I am a thousand kays into a set of Michelin PR3

The bike came with Pirelli Angel ST's which managed around 14k to 15k.

Angel STs don't get the best distance. You may well get at least 50% better and up to 100% better.

:blu13 I  just put a pair of Michelin PR4 on after running 2 sets of PR2. First set did 17000 kms, second set 19000 kms. The back tyres had little or no tread on the sides but some tread left in the middle. Riding in Tassie probably does that. I ride about 70% of the time two up. The front tyres have both had maybe 30%- 40% tread left, but I've always replaced both tyres at the same time. I will be going for a big ride soon so will put about 19000kms on the PR4's by September, if they make it. Should be interesting, I will report how they go.

Hi, I was running Pirelli Angel GT's on my ST 1300 before I traded it and at that stage they had 18,000 ks up with at least another 30% still to go before needing replacement.
These were the best tyres that I had fitted as they give absolute superior wet weather performance as well as mileage.

The thing surprised me about the Angel ST was how quickly they went off. They were quite ok with plenty of tread untill the last 1000 kays or so and then they just pooped themselves. Completely flogged out in one trip.

I've just had a pair of BS T30's fitted to my '99 ST1100A. Have ridden a couple of hundred k's so far. So far, great. Very difficult comparing because the old tyres (BT203's) were well worn with the usual feathering and squaring of the tread.

More to come when they are "broken in".

After Ballarat, I rode to Adelaide and needed a new rear tyre, I ended up with a Bridgestone T30 GT. On the long way back to Canberra it rained on the Sunday and our plans changed from taking the twistyest roads to not so twisty . . . Although we did go the Elliot Way . . . Anyways a few times in the rain and on a fairly wet road and travelling reasonably fast, but no faster then say on the Dunlop Roadsmart 2's I had just shed, the back slipped suddenly a number of times.  I am sure the Dunlops would not have done so, I have had Continentals, Bridgestones, Michelins, Dunlop, Pirelli and Shinko and have to say never a problem wit h them riding in the wet, but the T30 GT has me a bit wary of puching it in the wet. . . .

Are they the normal T30s or the GT version?

Not the GT's

I rode down the Mt Lindsey Hwy yesterday (and then home through Kyogle) on the new tyres and there is a stretch a few K's north of the border where they have been recently laying "road snakes" - where they squirt bitumen into cracks in the road. In some places there is more of the snake than the original road (or so it appears at cruising altitude) and I noticed the rear end, and to a lesser extent the front, twitching on the slippery bitumen (I should say straight tar, no crushed rock - too lazy to edit....). I put it down to a slippery surface and new tyres. Time will tell. I'll ride through there again soon and see if I still get the same behavior.

That's not good to hear that about the T30 GTs. I was told they were going to be the ducks nuts.
I was hoping to replace mine with them soonish.
Will wait to hear more reports.
Thanks to Bluey & STroppy for the updates.

How do you get a GT tyre to give long mileage.....make it hard. How do you get it to grip....make it soft.

It's a curse having a bike you can ride both ways  ;-*

Might put the Shinko's on over the t30 :popcorn might be better that the T30's after some reviews on them from overseas not great on life from them and even softer on the edges than the old 023's

A Shonko (Shinko) on the rear of mine let go in a massive (High side dismount) way on me in the wet on a mild corner at only 80 km/h.  The PR3's take that same corner at 100+ in the wet and not a twitch.

Cheers,
Gary
