Rear View Mirror fell out
« on: October 21, 2012, 07:33:50 PM »

While on my ride home from Port Macquirie  today between Dorrigo and Grafton.
I hit a huge pot hole and my right hand Rear view mirror just fell out
what a pain in the  :butt  to ride like this, but I made it home
Anyway do I have to go to Honda to get a new one or can you just go to a windscreen place and get them to make one

I broke mine and got a glass guy to put a piece of regular flat mirror in.

There are two things to consider.
1.  The OEM mirror is, liker all vehicular mirrors, only partially reflective- that stops you copping the full glare of headlights from behind at night.

2.  The OEM is slightly curved to give a wider fields of view.

There is one advantage in the flat mirror- it gives you a true indication of how far behind you the guy in the car/ truck actually is.

And, I guess, there's a fair bit of money difference.  The glass guy charged me $25.  But then he's a rider, and therefore a mate.   :grin
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

It doesn't look to bad, price wise.

www.motorcyclegoodies.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=2103526&category=Motorcycles&make=HONDA&year=2008&fveh=124456

The part number for a RH mirror is 88110-MCS-305, retail price in the USA is just under $100 plus post.
Worse case you are looking at $140, at the most.

Any place that sells glass can cut you a new mirror for a few dollars. Just take the old Mirror cover to em so they know what to cut.
Me thinks at the most $20.00 should cover it

What happened to the tether? Mine has a small plastic tether between the bike and mirror assembly.

It's a cable tie. Get a 5mm wide cable tie. The original is approx 150 long with a hole for the screw into mirror cover on the end of the tie.
The large end goes into a hole with a downwards facing slot. Insert the end of the tie and press it into the slot.
