Greencan injured and out of action
« on: May 23, 2017, 07:45:51 PM »
Greencan, Dickie has had a big off on his dirt bike. He has knocked himself around a fair bit. Broken collar bone and more broken ribs you would ever want, front and back. His chest is like a squeezebox so no laughing for him. Plus some other injuries. He is in a private hospital in Brunswick as he can't get home as yet. I saw him yesterday and he's very sore. Being an ex ambo he is not the best patient, worse than Dr Google. Drop him a line to lift his spirits.
Cheers Aj.

Bugger Greencan!  Ribs are certainly no laughing matter.  Take every med they offer you and worry about weaning off them later.
"Cuddles" over on FarRiders did the same thing to himself up at Barrington Tops on his Tenere.  Sure laid him low for a while.
Moral:  stay off dirt bikes!!      :-(((
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

Just got an up date from Ella. He is being transferred to John Fawkner hospital where he has to get his lung drained and they are going to see if they can do anything to his ribs while he is asleep . Probably wake up very sore.

Bloody hell Greencan how is anyone  going to top your list of injuries? Now pretend the pretty nurse, is a very hungry lion and don't move.  Enjoy the attention and turn off any news of Trump or it will hurt. Big but gentle hugs from W.A.

Good Morning to those silly enough to be awake at such an unearthly hour as I am...et al

Thank U all for the thoughts and best wishes, very much appreciated. And thank U, Adam n Neil for the personal visits too.

Though I was told last week I had incurred a L haemothorax at the major trauma hospital I was originally conveyed to, it came as a bit of a shock last evening when I received a visit from a cardiothoracic surgeon and adviced of the extent of the bleed and his reccommendation to undergo surgery asap and that he is also reviewing the fracture management with his colleagues.

Interestingly, having participated in the administration of acute chest drainage, not once did it occur to me that one day I'd be on the receiving end! I think other para medicos that have witnessed this procedure with know what I am talking about...for the rest of you males, it is inpart akin to seeing some other poor sod receiving a blow to his plums.  :eek Thankfully, in my case a GA will spare me such thoughts as the plan (as Adam has mentioned), is to collapse that lung and irrigate due to time since the injury occured.

So, the anticipated answer to the $64 question is..."too right I am going to another crack at dirt bike riding!"  :wink1

Cheers the can :-)

Bugga - Dickie - Yep those chest drains are awesome to watch being done but not so good to be on the receiving end of a Dr test drilling for iron ore  :fp
So your getting back on the dirt bikes - Well my diagnosis is your mental health is normal  ;-*  :grin :grin

Get better soon  - It wont take long as the hospital food will have you out of there in no time at all  :grin
Cheers

Good to hear your going to get back on the bike. Maybe you can have a go of my Husky 500 ? A bit more power and you will just fly over the top of the ruts and rocks. Don't worry about not being able to touch the ground it's over rated anyway. More horsepower and you will become one with the bike. Take it easy mate see you soon.

Were you riding one of those evil 2 stroke trail bikes Dickie ?
A workmate has just bought one as his 4 stroke ktm was a bit gutless.
He is beginning to see the error of his purchase  :-[

GC,

Tough break !

Sound horrendous.

I just watched a YouTube 'educational' on the procedure you are going through ..... think I would prefer a kick to the plums actually!

Obviously I hope the recovery journey is a little more relaxed for you after the lung drainage activity.

Got another update about our stunt rider. He is back to day one when he had his big off. Poor bloke, he had the lung drained  last night and while he was under the Doctor put a plate and screws in his collar bone and drew a funny face on his arse. :rofl :crackup At the moment they are going to leave his rib to repair themselves. Get well Dickie. I think I should get your Trumpy for mowing your lawn. :like :like  :grin

Thank U Lionel, Gary Adam et al...thoughts gratefully appreciated  :grin

A third CT of my chest revealed a bleed of 500-700ml. So I underwent a video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and also I took the advice of a second opinion from an orthopaedic surgeon and had my left clavicle (collar bone), realigned and pinned. The problem with these surgical procedures are they have reduced my movement and increased the pain to that of the day of my off...bugger :'(

So much like a game of snakes n ladders, when ya land on the long one!

Interestingly most of the bloody drugs I administered to patients over the decades I am hypersensitive to at best, or am allergic. So presently on iv fentanyl and ketamine and have epidural block, so now searching for the long ladders to get me outta here.  :wink1

Hopefully the chest drain n block will come out tomorrow, then I be able to more mobile by next week...touch wood ;-*

Cheers the can :-)
