New Batteries
« on: December 16, 2012, 10:17:55 AM »
Can anyone offer me any advice, I have been overseas for a while and the battery on my ST1100 looks like it is shot  :'(, can anyone recommend where to get a replacement. I live in Warner near Strathpine - North Brisbane. I am a member of the RACQ who sell motorbike batteries and the one I need is $149.00 delivered, is this an average/good price? As I have not had to buy one before.

Thanks Binns

What bike do you have Binns, do you have access to SuperCheap Autos, Battery World, Honda dealer. Shop around it may be cheaper. There are good batteries available from the net if time isnt a problem. Some one will be around  with the info soon

Hi Binns.
Definitely shop around. I bought my last battery from the Caboolture Honda Dealership for my 1300 for $103.
Definitely give the RACQ one a miss.
Cheers.

Although dear, there might come a day you'll thank the RACQ for stocking bike batteries.  Sometimes price is less important than convenience.  Considering only 3% of vehicles are bikes, it would seem to be a big concession by the RACQ to even carry them on their resQ vehicle.
Just an observation   :)
For the modern man who lives in the city, riding a bike might be one of the only ways to escape the humdrum monotony. To take off and ride. To be both at one with nature and one with the bike. To feel masculine. Adam Piggott

I good investment might be a charger that you can leave on the bike while away (and the car for that matter).    A decent battery should last many years if looked after.  of course riding the bike a lot more and going on some trips is even better :)

I'm looking at one of the Lithium Batteries for my next one. Also comes with two year warranty

http://www.ssbpowersport.com.au/Products/ProductList/tabid/241/mode/details/pid/430/Default.aspx

Some info from the page.

"SSB PowerSport Lithium Batteries are also one of the only Lithium Ion Polymer Batteries that can be charged using normal 12V car battery chargers / alternators.

In addition, they can sit unused for over a year without losing charge and can also be charged extremely quickly without damaging the battery."

True Biggles. I would pay the premium if stuck in the middle of nowhere but if you are at home I wouldn't. Some years ago, out riding on a public holiday, as you do, went to get underway after lunch, and yep, you guessed it, flat as a tack. Called RACQ. No battery, but got a tilt tray and home we go. I'm a very LONG TERM member of RACQ and sing there praises but if there is  a cheaper alternative at the time, I'll take it. However, the membership is worth every cent.
Cheers.

Hi there,

You may be interested to have a look at this product at www.shoraipower.com.
We have these Lithium batteries in my CBR1000F and my wife's GS500F

For the ST1300, the recommended item is:
Product: LFX18A1-BS12.
Price: $189.95
Link: http://www.shoraipower.com/Products/batteries/LFX18ABS12.html

They don't need to be connected to a trickle charger while the bike is not in use, as they don't go flat by themselves and are totally maintenance free.

Regards
John
