Rear wheel bearings.

(1/1)

DCG63:
Hi All,
I am needing to replace the rear wheel bearings on my 05 ST1300. The drive flange bearings were replaced recently when I had the rear tyre replaced, but unfortunately the mechanic didn’t see fit to change the other 2 bearings in the wheel.
I have removed the offending bearings and the left and right side bearings appear identical with the same code stamped on the rubber seal.
However when I look at a Honda parts diagram, it tells me that the genuine Honda left and right bearings are different with a different part number and price.
Can someone clarify how the genuine Honda bearings differ and if there is a problem with having the same bearing type on both sides.
Thanks.

West Aussie Glen:
So the manual calls for a 6204UU and a 20x47x20.6(NTN). The 6204 is a common size, 20x47x14 so there is a big difference in bearings, the righthand one is 6.6 mm wider and a heavier duty bearing. I can't remember what the UU stands for, I think maybe equivalent of 2RS, Brock?? 2RS being 2 rubber seals. The 20x47x20.6 is a 5204 with the NTN just standing for the maker. It is probably a 52042RS.  Your local bearing supplier should have them on the shelf.

DCG63:
Thanks for that.
It looks like an incorrect bearing was fitted previously as there were 6204's on both sides.
I have ordered an All Balls Bearing kit from RPM Moto which also includes the dust seal and flange bearings, so I will see if the correct size bearings are supplied in the kit.
Cheers.

West Aussie Glen:
Post some photos and bearing numbers here when it arrives.

Brock:
I seem to recall that some years ago, maybe on the US ST owners site , there was a double bearing available for the 1100 and 1300... I will try and find it.
