Title: Shiney's Crash
Post by: Shiney on September 15, 2019, 10:39:49 PM
Carrol and I had a great time at the Bottletree Hotel RTE on the 15th of September 2019 :grin
We met Draco and his wife in their car as we were riding along and later we met up with jf3000 :hatwave

After this we headed on to the hotel where we met up with everyone :runyay

We had a great lunch and a chat then headed off for home :wht13

We were having a great time until at around 14:10...

A ute began to indicate to merge into us so we watched him for a second to make sure he wouldn't run us over only to find the car in front of us was almost at a stop :eek

* A car ahead of this car had braked hard (at the last second) to turn into a driveway resulting in the car in front of us also braking hard :fp

So with the short distraction of the ute indicating it's intention to merge into us and the hard braking from the cars ahead we had only a second to brake before impact >:()

The mighty ST hit the car in front throwing Carrol from the bike and me into the screen then onto the ground with the bike.
Thankfully we always have full gear on and as a result only have a few scratches and a lot of bruising, the ST on the other hand has a bit of damage.

Now for the good things :thumbsup

Our gear worked extremely well (I'll list the gear below),
The rear crash bars worked brilliantly in stopping the bike from traping my leg between the bike and the road,
Draco and his wife were there assisting us in about 5 seconds after impact :-++

We were checked out by the Ambos then taken to hospital for x-rays
After we got the all clear (nothing broken, just a lot of bruising) Draco and his wife picked us up and drove us home.

All in all it was a great RTE followed by a unique trip home :eek

Cheers
Shiney

Sorry to hear about your "off" :cuss but glad that you are both not baldly injured. Only your bike and ego
But got that you were all suited up for these type of things
Bikes easily fixed but the old body a bit slower to recover
Good that you had Draco there for assistance
Hopefully quick recovery and ST repaired

Wow. That sure put a dramatic dint in an otherwise terrific day.

About that same time we were heading up to Currimundi on 4 wheels and were just one car behind an amazing incident, whereby a Ute lost control at 110 and literally did a 360 on the bitumen in solid highway traffic before coming to rest facing the wrong way in the emergency stop lane. Clouds of tyre smoke everywhere. Incredibly there was no impact, but when the driver got out he had this crazed look in his eyes that comes from having your system shot full of adrenaline.

We are so glad you and Carrol are OK, though I expect you’ll be rather sore for a bit. I hope there are no lingering physical or mental impacts.  You sleeping OK?

Yeah- read Carrol's account on FB- terrible.  Just shows how quickly things go pear-shaped.  I hate it when people pull off into driveways without giving sufficient indication and time for people to adjust.
Here's hoping everything is back together for November.  It is a fair way off.  Maybe you'll have a couple of mismatching panels- better that than missing out!

Ouch for Shiney & Carrol but good to hear no bodily damage.
Was our 1st RTE, will come again and thanks to Shiney for organising.

Glad you are both reasonably OK. Severe bruising still isn't fun.

My daughter has my car at the moment, and should be handing it back later this week, if you need to borrow it to get to work.

Thanks everyone :hatwave
Carrol and myself are sore today but we will be fine :thumbsup
I am waiting to hear from the Insurance company as to the condition of the ST and for now will be using Carrol's car to get around.

Thank you for the offer to borrow your car Gadget but Carrol's car will keep me moving :-++ :-++ :-++

I'll keep everyone updated as things progress :thumbs

Cheers

Carrol also has a great little scooter  :grin

STrudel gets called a scooter by my daughter Rachel who rides a CB400 four.  A few weeks ago she said to me "I was coming home from Woolworths and I saw this little guy on a white scooter".  It took about 20 seconds for the penny to drop and for me to call her a Butthead in response  :p

I'm glad you are both doing well.As Biggles said,Carrols account on FB was rightfully alarming. If you can't ride to Tassie,i am planning on driving down at this stage and am happy to take passengers with some sightseeing along the way in a soon to be purchased vehicle. Rest up and take it easy.

That's just awful news. Wishing you both a speedy recovery. I'm sure an 'off' like that takes it's toll on the desire to "get back on the STead". Take care.

G'day everyone,
Carrol and myself are doing okay we just have a few painful bruises that are starting to colour up nicely but we are in good spirits :thumbs

The bike is being assessed today so we should find out if it will be repaired or not :X

We are both keen to get back on the bike (once the bruising is gone :wink1)

Mrs Biggles was told Hirudoid cream is very good for treating bruising and swelling and it's helping a sprained ankle she recently incurred.

Awful news. Glad you are both basically ok. Even the ST looks better than expected. Its a shame you cant trust drivers to merge safely and correctly.

Hope the bruises disappear quickly.

Bugga! But soo glad you too are just a bit bruised with nothing broken!

Hope the bike gets repaired in time for Tassie. A bed here if needed on the trip to/from Tassie.

very gretaful to hear you are alive and well.

I too hate it when a vehicle in the adjacent lane wants to merge with out looking because as you so unfortunatly found out the car beside you takes your attention whilst the cars in front are doing goodness knows what.

All I can say is well done for the ATGATT scenario.

Sorry to hear this Shiney, I know how cautious and vigilant you always are and am very glad you two will be all good after a little while.

I hope you can still get to the NatRally somehow as I KNOW you'll never forget doing a lap of Tassie, plus - on a selfish note - it'll be awesome to see you and Carrol again.

Thanks for the RR as we always learn a little bit more through hearing people's accounts of things that can go wrong or catch you out while riding.

Take care and keep us all in the loop of the progress of you two and the white knight!     :wht13

Cheers, Diesel

Gday everyone,

Thankyou for all the well wishes.

Carrol and I are keen to get back out riding again (Once the bruising goes away) and are in surprisingly good spirits and are still looking forward to the NatRally :thumbs

The insurance company assessor advised that the bike will be written off.

I have compiled a video of the crash, check it out here:
