As the warmer weather is fast approaching, what about an evening ride and dinner somewhere nice. I thinking somewhere around Southport.
Would make a nice change. What do others think?
A.
I acknowledge hardworking Australians no matter who they are or where they come from. All those who have contributed to this wonderful country deserve an equal share of gratitude for their contributions. To single any group of individuals out for special homage only denigrates the rest of us.

I like it.  Southport SLSC is good for a feed. Money goes to a good cause too.

14th and 15th November are out for me as Wife's work function is on at Caloundra.  Work are threatening (still) to send me to PNG for a fortnight from the 17th Nov for 2 weeks.  So how would the Sat 1st Nov sound?

The Farmers Arms Hotel
New England Hwy, Cabarlah QLD 4352

This charming country hotel's claim to fame (and that of the tiny hamlet it belongs to) is that it has the longest continuous liquor license in Queensland, having been licensed since 1863. Located on the New England highway, Cabarlah is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of a town, but this piece of history is worth stopping for.

I can vouch for that pub too Gaz.  Good roast on a Sunday and charming atmosphere.

Good ride from there down through Murphy's Creek on the way back home.  Might make it a lunch stop after Esk on the 8th Nov.
Cheers,
Gary

I could walk home from the Farmers Arms Hotel if I have too many to drink  :beer
It would be a big walk but better than a ride in the back of a paddy wagon  :law

The Queensland National Hotel in Laidley serves great food, and requires a ride through some great looking countryside to get there...

There is a nice undercover deck on the other side where they serve the food. Reasonable prices too.

Here is a great 2 bakery loop (or 1 bakery and a pub for lunch loop) taking in some of the fresh Sunshine Coast Hinterland roads and sights....

It starts at BP Caboolture Northbound, goes Old North Rd to Wam, left at D'Aguilar and up over Mt Mee to Dayboro Bakery.

After coffee - head along Mt Samson Rd, left onto Winn Rd and wind our way back to Dayboro, where we head over Mt Mee again.

Then it's through Woodford, Commissioner's Flat Rd and Peachester to Landsborough Bakery or Pub for lunch as they are across the road from each other.

After lunch - it is easy to rejoin the Bruce and head home.

A great ride. I guess we just need to pick a date.    ;-*

Cheers, Diesel

An overnighter I have enjoyed in the past though haven't done for 5 or 6 years now is the Red Lion tavern at Glencoe, from Bris Vegas we would scoot down the lions Rd to Kyogle, stop for coffee then head to Grafton via Casino & the Summerland way, have lunch at the Village Green Grafton then ride the Gwydir Hwy to Glen Innes and onto Glen Coe. The Red Lion used to be a great pub particularly in winter with 2 open fire places in the dining room and quaint rooms. We would then ride the New England hwy back to Brisbane.

Hope you don't mind LeaST4Me - I added a map to your post to give punters a picture of the route - this is a fantastic ride!

Shiney and I have volunteered to be Ride coordinators for Qld and our role is to keep the RTE threads up to date, try to come up with a few RTEs for the year, carry some OzSTOC merchandise and help out where we can.

We aren't expecting to be able come up with all rides and destination and we are seeking your suggestions.

We'd even like to see some mid week options for shift workers.

With both of us based in SE Qld we will definitely need some help from those up north in coming up with RTEs up that way.

So OzSTOCers:
  • What ideas have you got?
  • Where would you like to go, that you haven't been before?
  • Where would you like to return to?
  • What overnighters do you think could be interesting/entertaining?
Looking forward to hearing some ideas.

Thanks

Some future RTEs around Townsville might go to any of these:
Mountain View Hotel Gordonvale (bottom of Gillies Highway), Mena Creek/South Johnstone, Innisfail/Flying Fish Point, Forrest Beach/Lucinda/Long Pocket Hotel (Ingham area), Bowen, Collinsville, Airlie Beach/Shute Harbour, Burdekin Dam/Ravenswood/Mingela, Charters Towers/Bluewater Springs Roadhouse/Heritage Tea House(Hervey Range), Dalbeg Inn (upstream "west" (actually nearly due south) from Ayr on Burdekin River).

Mountain View Hotel, http://publocation.com.au/pubs/qld/little-mulgrave-via-gordonvale/mountain-view-hotel

Just a little extra distance and I have never been there, but how about :
Royal Hotel Eromanga,   famous for being the furthest town from the ocean in Australia.
http://www.australianexplorer.com/eromanga.htm
Just a tad over 1000km from Brisvagas  :whistle

 :think1
Eromanga is about 1200km from Townsville, so could make a good destination for an extended ride. (FarRide, even)

How about "Easter in the Inland"?

Eromanga is about 977 km from my place north of Brisbane.
An easter ride sounds good.
How about dinner Easter Saturday night at the Royal Hotel?
Cheers,

I worked out at Eromanga for a while and you won't find a more 'COUNTRY' pub than this.
No Accommodation out there except 'Dongas' and old motel rooms at Eromanga Motel Caravan Park.

These long straight desert roads are as boring as bat shit and very dangerous (Emus, Roos & Cattle) but the country is so different and beautiful it's definitely a bucket list destination.

With only 2 or 3 trucks on these roads a week, a break down WILL be deadly so DON'T ATTEMPT THIS RIDE ALONE!!!

One fuel bowser in town and you need to insert your credit card to operate it and get fuel. It certainly is the middle of nowhere... I remember it well from my travels in that area last year.

I don't know about 1 or 2 trucks a week, the traffic was non stop when we were there, bloody caravanners one after the other, quite a few driving like they owned the road and forcing bikes off the edge.

Took my nephew up to Nambour yesterday to pick up a new purchase for him, a Blackbird, and after a leisurely jaunt up through the mountains, we ended up at Glasshouse Tavern for lunch. The chef spotted us in our jackets and came out to have a chat. He is a fellow motorcyclist, be it the red Italian brand, but he mentioned that he has initiated a $20 All You Can Eat BBQ on Sundays between !2.00 & 3.00. He asked to 'put the word out there'. It is a great location for us Northsiders with loads of parking. As previously mentioned in this thread, it is a great RTE location. An great idea to cater for a large gathering.  :thumb

You could have an overnighter at Brunswick Heads, We took a leisurely ride by the below route last weekend had brekky at the Hinze Dam Cafe, lunch in Lismore, dinner at the Brunswick heads hotel which had a reasonable band playing in the beer garden & we spent the night in a new cabin at the caravan park which is less than 5 minutes walk from the pub.

https://maps.yahoo.com/directions/?lat=-28.2027676859484&lon=153.36776733398438&zoom=9&q=upper%20coomera&bb=-27.11536816%2C151.27349854%2C-29.29118984%2C155.46203613&o=capalaba&d=Capalaba%2C%20Brisbane%2C%20QLD%2C%20Australia&w0=upper%20coomera&w1=Advancetown&w2=Murwillumbah%2C%20NSW%2C%20Australia&w3=mooball&w4=Mullumbimby&w5=Federal%2C%20NSW%2C%20Australia&w6=clunes%2C%20nsw%2C%20australia&w7=lismore%2C%20nsw%2C%20australia&w8=Ballina%2C%20NSW%2C%20Australia&w9=Brunswick%20Heads%2C%20NSW%2C%20Australia&w10=Murwillumbah%2C%20NSW%2C%20Australia
Nice pub that one at Brunswick Heads. Good possibility for an overnighter too, for some of the NSW people to join us.
Cheers,
