FarFailure FR#30
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:25:44 AM »
 :dred11
After Ballarat I planned to do a FarRide or two, once I replaced the tyre.FR#29 Cargellico , didnt do that one  :think1 Cooroy, back amongST my kindred friends, so great rides to visit them. I was living in GlaSTonbury when I bought STranger, and learnt to control him on the great roads   FR#30 registered.. :runyay
I needed to sync my carbies and called upon the knowledge and vacuum thingy :grin of Abe, :-++ Abe explained it all very well  ++ ++ coz even I underSTood it all. and learnt something,  back together and teST ride, :runyay geezz I better hang on. I'm impressed,  :like Abe
STranger's ready to go, juST need to fill his tank, he's all shiney and clean, but we manage to leave 1 hr late, 12:53 STart docket at Leumeah and off I go to the Northern Rd then the Putty Rd, one of the roads I've enjoyed for35yrs.
I followed a farm truck across the Windsor bridge and passed him 1ST chance, then once paST Glossodia STarted to get comfy with the new PR4 and put it thru a teST in the twiSTies,, I settled into the ride when up over a creST and here's this 'L' cbr, rider lQQked  :eek so I spun round to see if he was ok,, I said' I bet ya run out'  yep! he said    he had STood there 45 mins by then. I says  ' its ur lucky day and gave him my 5L 'jerry  a quick chat about FarRiders and off again hoping to miss the grey above, went ZIP paST an empty Greygum cafe,  STranger was happily buSTing to run, he was responsive again,, zip thru the nice bends before Bulga,, I turned left onto The Golden Hwy headed to Muswellbrook, had a  :phone chat to ST2UP Chris as my next STop was Tamworth for fuel then Guyra for a hot STew.
it had juST got dark and I had had a playfull ride on an almoST traffic free Hwy into Scone , not wanting to get cold riding thru light foggy patches I changed gloves thermal top on , a handfull of my 6pm meds then took off again,
I'd come up behind 3 trucks 26k's north and overtook them on dual lanes, as I passed the laST truck, dark ahead hit my high beam,,   ccooorrfff spltt  er brrmmm . then i noticed like a miss hapn, my lights went dim so back to lowbeam,, losing power,, arrgghh HAZZARD lights ON and realized i was on a creek crossing and about to have 3 semi's bear down on me, lucky the bike seemed to get power enough to get me over the culvert and up the next rise, where the bike cut out into DARKNESS, I was guessing where I was STopped. :OldMan
I had a led torch, and after phoning :phone the RAN  :like checked fuses and battery connections, while semis and cars passed me only 3 ft away.. my Hazzards went out after about 20 mins. my 40 amp alternator is the likey fault,

low and behold a kind motoriST STopped behind me to protect me while i put the seat and covers on then using his light guided me to the bottom of the hill where I could get safely off the hwy, I was going to be here awhile.

I wasnt planning on camping but lucky I had a very small tarp and a sleeping bag to keep the dew and rain off,
and I flattened some long grass and made my neST safely away from traffic, I then discovered I was about 15 foot from train tracks,  i was lying on my back and got a massage whenever a train went by. :rofl
about 11pm as i juST got sort of comfy a couple in car pulled up. we spoke and they offered to take me 7 k's to Murrarundi, but I wanted to STay with STranger.they asked if I had water and food , water yes food no.Trent and Sue , said they would duck home and be back, well at 12 09 am they returned with a lrg tray of STew, 2 bottles of water, milk, coffee, sugar, fruit and bottle gas STove , even a rubber matt for comfort, sat for a while while I  :eat ate, then they said to leave the gear and they would pick it up. o:)
I was amazed and very grateful for their concern to STop because a bike was off the rd, and the FeaST they provided down to bikkys with coffee,
Another proof there are STill decent people, my night would have much more unpleasant without their kindness,  I gave them an OzSTOC card,,  ++
5.30am  Sat my nephew  who at 9pm when I called him arranged for a towbar, fitted it then using my bro's trailer, drove the 360 k's to bring me an STranger home.
at the old truckstop on the Putty a metal monSTer tried to jump STranger

I was planning on completing FR#30 enjoying a week with friends, then returning home and doing my timing belt now I have a few other things need attention.
FR#30 DNF my second DNF bue to mech failure..  There's always another ride...

Oh!  How undignified it looks sitting on a trailer .....

Glad your safe and things turned out okay.

Are you gunna send the good Samaritans a bunch of flowers and / or a slab of beer?

Thanks for keeping us up to date Johnny, and glad you're home safe and investigating repairs.    This raises as issue that may be useful for any of us who have registered on the RAN,  :phone  and who may be called upon to help an unfortunate member who finds themselves in the same immobile situation as yourself.

Will an ST fit on a standard 6x4 trailer, and if not, what size trailer is needed to carry an ST?
Johnny, how on earth did you load the bike on the trailer?

I hope I never need to apply the above knowledge.

I think you right Brock. I have a single axle 8 x 5 which easily fits an ST, also Goldwing, Harley etc with room to spare. Hoping I don't have to use it too often.

Sorry I couldn't get over to you johnnyYTED but glad to see you've been well looked after. Hope the elec glitch is not too drastic.

Cheers

Not what you would want to happen, but if it does it is nice to know there are still nice people to make it a decent story to retell.  Glad to hear you've made it home OK.

Putty road I've done many time in a car (almost every 2nd weekend for 5 months in 1988), and I've wanted to do it on a bike for ages.

Cheers,
Gary

Pete the trailer carrying STranger is 7 ft long. It was a perfect fit with about an inches left past towbar. Lucky my nephew Cameron didnt get a 6X4 cause it wont fit.  Good to know facts... and my brother who owns the trailer has a HD so he also has a ramp :nahnah. Cameron and I pushed it up, fairly easily. Cam's a lot younger stronger and taller it must ave been his muscle used... :crackup    :thumbs
