We haven't decided either way on this one yet.

If it does happen we'll probably stay in Ceduna like we did in 2015. Bike and trailer to Ceduna (670 km) for overnight Friday and then bike out to the border and back again and Sat night in Ceduna (800 km) and heading back to home on Sunday.

It doesn't actually say what time.
If you're just turning up then anytime on Saturday is ok.

It's really only time critical (for check in window) if you're doing this as a FarRide (so you have to register there) though the rules aren't so rigid with this one as you only need to travel a minimum of 1000 km within 24hours either coming or going.

When we did this in 2015 as our first FarRide we had between midday and 4 pm to check in. We did it as a 1000km plus ride within 24 hours; from home to Ceduna from after midday Friday, overnight in Ceduna and left there 6am to make the border by midday Saturday. At about 4 pm we headed back to Ceduna for the night and returned home on the Sunday.

I just booked two nights accommodation in Ceduna so a repeat of our 2015 ride - hopefully it won't be as wet as was back then.

I last did this ride in 2015 with Saaz, meeting up with Alan & Heather and Wag and some of the other West Aussies . . Enjoyed the ride and the great company. Would love to do it again but not this year . . I'll be skiing down at Perisher Blue.

I plan to do it again in 2018 . . . I encourage those budding long distance riders to cross this one off their bucket list . .

The last time I did this was 2013 on a Honda Shadow 750. If the planets align I reckon I might give it a go again - hopefully without the gale force head wind heading there across the Nullarbor (it made a mess of my fuel calculations and I made it with only 15 minutes to spare).

This event is open to anyone it has been happening for 40+ years although it is now also on the FarRide  calendar. If you do plan to join this gathering it is probably the easiest FarRide to do due to the very relaxed check in.

The History of Border stretches just over 40 years and it is an interesting story well worth the read.

In 1976, Bear and Eric both lived in Western Australia although Eric decided to move to better pastures in South Australia. Not long before Eric left WA dinner was organised at Bear’s place and Eric showed up with a Big Sister self-saucing pudding for dessert. Unfortunately, after much liberation the pudding was forgotten, dinner was consumed and the weary friends parted company after making arrangements to catch up.

The following year, Bear and Eric decided that if they wanted to catch up and have a beer, they needed a place that was relatively close to both of them. As they lived in states that shared a border, perhaps the best place to catch-up would be the newly built pub at WA/SA border.Ad the venue was decided all that was needed was a date. After much discussion, it was decided that the first weekend in August would be an ideal time as it is not too hot and not a lot happens in August anyway.

Word soon spread among the faithful in WA and not only was this to be a catch-up for Bear and Eric, others decided to go along for the ride. So, on August 6/7th 1977 the first Border Run happened. Present at the first Border Run were: Bear, Eric and Sandra, Boomer, Goldie, Pat Henderson, Catherine, Joan, Murray, and John.

Prior to leaving Perth, Bear located the pudding and decided to take it out to the order and have it for dessert one night. Fortunately, the Pudding didn’t get eaten and to this say it still travels Australia by motorcycle.

Since that first Border Run in 1977, a year has not gone by without the Border Run happening and some 350 people have attended from each state and territory in Australia.

I have the link to the history in the opening post.

This one is the easiest FarRide for us to do as it about 1080 Km away in a straight line west from home. It's easy enough to do the required 1000 km within 24 hours and still have an overnight stop at Ceduna on the way.

With the ST you'd easily run Ceduna to the border though I prefer Penong which is 80 km closer. We used just over 23 litres (17.2 k/l) from Penong to the border in 2015. I also carry a 10 litre jerry can just in case.
