Some of you may recall I asked about an issue with brakes locking on and engine misfiring on my st1100aw
This was back in September last year.
The bike has been at the Honda shop in midland since then and is still there.
The issue has been referred to consumer affairs and is an ongoing case.
Here is a recent email from them:
Hi Peter, well the part arrived and we have fitted to your bike and spent another few hours bleeding the system, but to my total disbelief the front brakes continue to bind. Individually all of the components seem to work but put them all together and they start to bind, we have never seen anything like it before. In a last ditch effort to rectify this issue I have a technician that does some part time work for us and I am hoping that a fresh set of eyes may pick up something that we have missed.
Peter we work on brake systems just about every day of the week so this is not a common issue something, somewhere in the system is causing pressure to build up in the system. Believe me when I say that we are trying everything to get this sorted for you it is very frustrating for all involved and the amount of time me guys have spent on your bike is unbelievable.
I will be back in touch next week Peter after Ralph takes a look at it.

Just had a quick look at the ABS/CBS/TCS info I have.
Wondering if the delay valve above the RH calliper could be faulty.
When using the foot brake it activates the three centre pistons on each calliper but it's not that simple. The direct link to the back is fine but the front isn't that simple. The delay valve prevents the RH calliper from working until the LH calliper works and activates the secondary master to operate the rear outer pistons via a PCV (Pressure control valve) thereby giving more braking to the rear before full braking to the front.
If the delay valve is faulty could it keep pressure applied after the brakes have been released? This would affect the rear brakes and perhaps only the LH front or maybe both front ones.
The only other thing I can think of is a fault/damage in the linkage between LH calliper and the secondary master causing the system to stay activated.

This is probably unlikely but I once had a rubber brake line go bad and due to the deterioration of the rubber inside it started to work like a non return valve. So put the brake on and the oil would pass and apply brakes, but when you released the oil did not return correctly and some pressure remained causing the disks to get very hot and of course slow you down. It was a bit baffling at first but easily fixed to be honest. I mention it just in case.

Well the latest news is they have fixed the brakes and I will be picking the bike up and riding it home from Northam next weekend.
I have asked them what solved it so far no reply.

Any news on what the actual fault was?

Here is the manager's actual words, and I quote:
"I don’t know much about the part but it was called the proportioning valve for the ABS system. It sits right up under the front fairing sort of behind the headlight, to this date we have never replaced one before."
