OzSTOC Servicing & Maintenance Days
« on: June 04, 2014, 08:12:32 AM »
The idea of Service & Maintenance Days is to assist fellow members with Basic servicing & maintenance tasks on their ST1300. (I.e changing the engine oil or coolant)

This awareness day gives the less experience members amongst the club the opportunity to receive a basic working knowledge of a regular servicing or maintenance task.

The Owner of the bike supplies the necessary consumable items for the task and location, tools and the obligatory sustenance is worked out by the attendees.

Disclaimer: OzSTOC is merely providing the means by use of the forum to make members aware of the time/date/location of these BASIC Service & Maintenance days, and accepts NO responsibility for ANY issues encountered on the day.

Great Idea. It would be great to be shown around the bike, I can do a few small jobs
I even changed the headlight bulbs after reading Shiney's post "How to Do it"
And changed the little side bulbs in the headlight with a little help from a mate
I will have to post it up when I can get some decent photo's

Whoa...  you didn't read about the slab supplied by the benficiaries?
No- not VB or XXXX-  Coronas and Hahn.      :-(((

A slab will be a lot more economical than the serving department of the local dealer ;-* perhaps a bottle of johns walker black  label! For the more intricate assistance.  Top only to be taken off when the bike running again :Chocies

the obligatory sustenance is worked out by the attendees.

:think1 Biggles, I read that as BYO but then I being one who doesn't drink copious amounts of alcohol (if any) might see it differently.

 :beer

Yes, I'm based in SEQ, Logan Village to be precise, near Mt Tamborine....

If anyone is interested I can do a maintenance day, just bring your parts... If you would like I can give you a list of parts to bring with you on the day....

I'm in Burleigh Heads and I'd like to stick my nose into a SEQ maint. day. I'm willing to help anyone do the basics for servicing. I would like to see somebody's forks removed to at least have the oil replaced, but only because this is something I've been planning to do myself and would welcome the chance to learn by observing. (No need for it to be my forks that are worked on - I don't have an immediate problem, nor do I have an approaching long distance trip).

In short, I am happy to provide some labour and (limited) expertise, but do not expect my bike to be worked on (nothing really needs doing).

G'day Pete, fork seals probably doesn't come under the regular maintenance thing, but maybe another day we can do it.... Do you have any rust or rough spots on the chrome ?

What you will need:

1. An oil kit from Honda - comes in a box, includes Genuine Honda oil, Honda oil filter, and replacement crush washer for the sump plug. Retails around $60, you might get club discount....

2. CR8EH-9 or C8EH-9 x 4. Coming into summer, you might consider using a cooler spark plug, CR9EH-9

3. Final drive oil - Hypoid gear oil SAE 80/90

4. Honda Air filter.

5. Good quality brake and clutch fluid (DOT 4 or DOT 5) - Please make sure the container is brand new and in a sealed container. I don't want to use any old brake fluid that has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years.... Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbs moisture out of the atmosphere over time which could render it potentially useless.....

*Please note - I only have a Honda oil filter remover socket, and I prefer to use genuine honda parts... If you buy an after market filter, I won't have a socket for it....

Also, if there are any other maintenance issues you are having, you might have to wait till after the servicing is done.... Fork seals etc, take considerable time....

Check all your lights are working as well...

If you can think of anything else, please let me know.....
